Dear Apuggers,

I have had one or two e.mails re rumours that we are going to launch a SELENIUM Toner, well its not a rumour...we are, in addition we are also planning to launch a range of coloured toners including sepia, gold and others but that will be in 2007 :

We are currently testing final formulations from our R&D chemists for a rapid acting product, and they all look very, very good, but we have quite a bit of testing regarding storage ( longevity and keeping properties of the solutions ) which you cannot really hurry. In addition we are testing various concentrations etc for optimising performance with our paper range, and of course it works with all other papers from other manufacturers as well.

We would expect to launch and have in the shops in 1lt and 5lt around September 2006.

I am very pleased to tell you that Les McLean has agreed to demonstrate our product, every day, at the Focus on Imaging show in the UK 26th February to Wednesday 1st March on the ILFORD Photo / HARMAN technology Limited Stand ( booth ).

That's great news, Simon. Thanks for letting us know!

Great news, Simon!
Thank you for the update, still waiting for that D25:wink:!

Cheers

André

That's great! Don't forget to send some down here!

Thanks Simon! Looking forward to have it on my shelf in the darkroom!

Great news, Simon! Many thanks!

For those interested, the Focus on Imaging website is http://www.focus-on-imaging.co.uk/ (rather sad though that the central image of the triptique shows an Agfa Photo stand...! )

Thanks Simon, the bottle of KRST that I have been using is just about gone...so like they say timing is everything. Look forward to hearing Les's input, always worth a listen...and some pretty good stories to!

Simon,
I just ran out of Selenium...Have you ever thought of sending some bottles out for 'real world' testing ? :D

Oh, the news are really great - if ILFORD HARMAN would carry the whole line of the products needed for quality black-and-white photography, including toners, it would help greatly to many people. I am making my selenium toner now all by myself from raw selenium - who knows, if ILFORD toner would be available and the price would be attractive, maybe I would switch? Much thanks to you, Simon, and to new wise ILFORD management!

Cheers from Moscow, Zhenya

That's great news, Simon. I still have a pretty good supply of KRST on the shelf, but when it runs out, I'll be interested in trying out the Ilford alternative.

According to my rigorous scientific testing (sniffing it) KRST must be 70 - 80% ammonium thiosulfate based on how much stronger it stinks than the 60% ammonium thiosulfate I use for making fixer. Will the Ilford product use ammonium thiosulfate to create the alkaline environment (that is why they use it, right?) the selenium needs to work in?

Murray

Great. I just thought to ask one chemical company to mix for me Selenium toner... Now I will wait for Ilford...

What are you tring to do Simon, with all your tempting products and offers? Lure me back to the darkside of Black and White? Long live Velvia!!!

It is fantastic to see what Ilford is doing these days!! Keep up the good work.

This is great news. I have always preferred Ilford's chemistry in general and use Kodak's Selenium currently. Eagerly awaiting the availability of Bromophen right now.

I'm interested. I've used Kodak's product exclusively for many years but I have my doubts it will remain available much longer in the future.

Simon,

a related question. Why do the Ilford papers, in my experience, not take to toning as well (and quickly) as others such as Forte, Kentmere, etc?

This is fantastic news, absolutely wonderful. A big thank you is in order!

Marco

Toning

Our RC papers are 'known' for not toning as easily as some others :

I have over the years seen various 'solutions' but they do tone, I am
launching a range of toning products and will get the best chemistry and
ensure the guide notes and instructions are perfect to tone our
products and deliver the right end result.

It is fair to say our RC products do not lith as well as some other papers .

How about coming up with a lith paper and developer then?

This is great news Simon. I will look forward to using the Selenium for sure but I am also glad to see that you mention Gold Toner. I use Gold quite a lot and currently the best source is the Fotospeed Au20 which I order from Calumet. My biggest complaint with this (aside from the price) is that it only ships in one liter liquid containers.

Good news, glad to hear it!
Finally, some of the products are trickling through to Canada - I just bought a boat load of Perceptol as soon as it poked its head up! The minute the Selenium hits the shelf, its in my cart!
Simon, once again I have to say how impressed I am with what you are doing on behalf of your company - talk about client relations!

Peter.
