Ilford Ortho Plus, Need Developer

Hi;

Can anyone recommend a developer for this film? I am making inter-positives with it from which I print onto paper making a negative image. I would like a developer that can vary the contrast eithr thru dilution, temp, etc.

Also, I'd like one that doesn't produce overly dense inter-positives. I tried ANSCO 130 last night and the results were usable, but they were very dense and required 90-second exposures to get a print. The prints looked ok, but the printing time was quite long.

the paper developer dektol is what I use. I use the same film for the same purpose. the dilution is the key to the contrast. The more dilute the less contrast. Also a good base fog helps to tone down the contrast. I have several ways of fogging the film before I expose the image.

Thanks! What dilution do you use? Do you go as far as 1:10 or 1:9 or do you keep it around 1:3 or so?

I have been so bad that I used a old tray that habeen used for devloper oer 15 years, and had water stand in it oer night. That dilution of the water leaching out the old deeloper worked the best I had ever encountered. From that i started using it at about 1:25 and added water as i felt it needed it

Have you put this tray up on eBay? Did the old developer dry in the form of the face of Mary by any chance?

So, I guess starting out with Dektol at 1:10 would be a decent starting point and then diluting from there?

no the tray(s) reside at a jr college near me. The trays are never cleaned out, other than a short little rinse with water and then water filled to the amount needed for the next day. After years of that, I'm surprised the deeloper doesn't get up and walk out by itself.

Yes 1:10 would be fine. Just deelop under yellow safelights as you would paper. I even took and old piece of paper and put at the bottom of the tray so it would have a nice white background to watch the development on. Ortho film is tricky but a lot of fun to work with.

I have used PQ Universal and even Agfa Neutol Warm. Both paper developers.
