I just got some last week. I e-mailed Amplis, and they said they had some in stock, But that you had to ask for it when you ordered. SO I got a few rolls (enough for the free shipping) of both the 120 and 35mm HP5.

those colors are quite close to how I remember getting HP3 back in the 1960s. although the Cassettes are mechanically the same as current Ilford Cassettes. (not the aluminum ones in the 60s) Likewise the Plastic Cans are the same with the Logo saying UCP on the bottom.

the box says it is in Honor of 145 years of Ilford.

the one cute thing is that the paper cassette label way back then said Made in England, Ilford Limited Ilford Essex. the new ones say Made in England 145 year Limited edition. I will take me a while before i use and develop one to see if the edge printing is anything special..

The one thing I have never forgiven Harman for, is when they stopped supplying different coloured tops to their film canisters. I've had these for decades, as well as blue FP4 ones. I instantly know which one to pull out of a pocket or camera bag.

These were loaded a couple of days ago from bulk, and will be used by the Olympus XA camera one can just see on the left. Camera in one pocket, a couple of rolls in the other pocket.

Kerrisdale Cameras (my local shop) emailed me, to let me know that they had a few 120 rolls of retro packaged HP,5 with my name on them... So, I dashed over and picked them up. When I got home to admire them, my name wasn't on them...🤭

Retro is OK. So ugly they're cool.

I'm in the "I just use the film" camp.

Harman's challenges aren't centred around product quality (mostly).
They are centred around building interest in their products amongst those who aren't otherwise likely to buy them.
In other words - marketing their products to new customers.
Those of us who will buy the film however it might be packaged aren't really their target - although from some of the posts here, at least a few of Harman's sales are to those users too.
This packaging seems to be an effective way of making black and white film stand out from "the pack" - not an easy thing to do.

I’d like to get some of the new packaging. I ordered some 120 HP5 from B&H right after Christmas and it was still the traditional packaging. I was a bit dissapointed.
I picked up an order for some 35mm FP4 from B&H in mid December and it was regular packaging too. I had even peeked at the fridge when I walked over to the film corner grab a battery for my friend's P&S and hadn't seen it in there either. Either they got some and ran out immediately or they still haven't put them out. I'll probably check again when I'm in that area next week.

That's still possible. It depends on their order quantity / stocking policy. They may move more than most, and they also may order larger batches at a time than others.
IME, this is it. There's a lot of times you'll see things for sale on there that have short expiration dates, film, chemicals, etc. I think they stockpile things, sometimes to the point that they go bad before they move. They're always p good about marking what's expiring and what's fresh, but I've been shopping there for years and it's definitely a pattern. And rarely the stuff going bad is popular films like Ilford (seems like the current sale is for Wolfen) but it would explain why they don't have new packaging yet.

I ordered a couple a dozen rolls of FP4 and HP5+ (120) a couple of days ago and when I opened the box yesterday thought the supplier had sent me the wrong stock.

First I knew of the new packaging, but the supplier here was advertising it with the old image so they're not treating it as anything special.

I guess the retro look may appeal to and encourage some new folks to try the product.

The new look is fun, and I hope it moves some product. But I've always admired the strong, clean look of Ilford's packaging. I think their branding was done by Design Research Unit in the 70s.

I'm trying to remember the last time I saw something labelled "Made in England ...."
The colours really do make me think of the 1940s and 1950s, so I like the choices they made.

Yes we were a quaint bunch then when the situation was always serious but never hopeless. Even in the 60s Jed Clampett found us still quaint when Jed and family left the Hills( Beverly that is ) and came to England to inspect their stately home, I believe. It escapes me how he came to acquire it

A similar thing still happens but now it's ownership and inspections of stately golf courses 🙂

Well, like it or not (and you're not required to), the point of it is to acknowledge their history and recreate a packaging motif from their past. It's how these films used to look. So why not?

Don't they have better things to do than redesign packaging?
