I recently acquired an old Ilford ICP 42 (Thermaphot UCP 403), but the owner understandably doesn't have a manual for it anymore. I'm not new to darkroom printing, but I've never used any automation in my processing and was hoping that some of you knowledgeable folk might be able/willing to help me out. It's unknown if the unit functions properly and so I'd like to first get to testing that, but to be honest I can't even figure out how to get the chemicals into the darn thing and I'm a little hesitant to wing it with some trial and error on this one. Can I use straight water for testing purposes? What cleaning practices should I be aware of? Basically, can you provide any instructions on how to operate/maintain this bad boy? Thank you.

My answer here still looks valid. I still havent scanned my manual. There's no reason you can't fill it with water for testing and you'd want it well rinsed before actual use anyway. The first thing I'd do is closely inspect the rollers for swelling and warping. There's no fix for that except to replace them, and I'm not sure where you'd get new ones. I still have it but I only used mine a few times many years ago so details of its operation are not fresh in my mind, but I can look things up for you.
