Ilford FP4+ 120 format speckling

I almost exclusively use FP4+ in my SQ and until now have escaped the dreaded speckling. Attached is a rough scan of one frame.

Roll 8 of a 10-pack showed it on most frames. I reported it to Ilford who confirmed that it was one of the affected batches, produced between their two announcements. I’d only seen the first notice so assumed I was unaffected.

The response was prompt and they’ve sent me replacement rolls plus some extras.

I was initially puzzled as to why it had only happened to one roll until I thought about the specific circumstances. Firstly, I used the roll over several months whereas I would usually complete a roll in one outing. Secondly I left my camera in the boot of my car overnight in October in Northumberland - cool nights, mild day, some sea fog.

I’m posting this for information purposes - I have no complaints about Ilford’s response.

I’ll be using the remaining two rolls from the affected batch with my usual cautious approach and am confident all will be well.

Does anyone know if the mottling tends to happen with HP5+ and Kentmere 400 in 120, too?

I think there have been some reports with HP5+ as well. As to the Kentmere, I don't know.

There have been reported cases with HP5+ (e.g. here). As for Kentmere 400, I've recently started to use this film and have not encountered any mottling yet.

I have not seen it in Kentmere 400 or 100, for that matter, in 120 format.
