Ilford Direct Positive - first experiences

Hi all,

I got a pack of 4x5 direct positive from a friend recently and decided to load it up in the 4x5 last night and experiment. I exposed for ISO 4 and it was perfect. It is very contrasty, so I will need to pre-flash next time. I developed in LPD 1:3 for 2 minutes and got supreme blacks. The paper quality is great, easy to handle.

One important thing to remember is that it turns all black and the whites develop. This messed with my brain as I put the first one in the developer and thought I overexposed! Whoops.

First shot, and hopefully I will experiment more. I plan on building an 11x14 or 16x20 pinhole eventually.

Thank you, I was really impressed with the print as well--especially considering it was inside, with artificial light, and I guessed the ISO and lighting...

I like the idea of the 16x20 because of the simplicity. $10 a shot, but you also have the final product in hand!

....here it is: the 16x20 pinhole. Well, kinda. I measured wrong and it's actually 16x19, so I'll need to trim the paper a bit. Gonna order some Ilford Direct Positive Fiber Glossy soon and give her a shot.

F/405 and effective ISO 3. Roughly 4 minutes in broad daylight. On the backside picture you can see the slot to insert the paper. I am going to insert paper, cover with electrical tape, shoot, bring back to the darkroom for development. Surely nothing can go wrong!

The angle of view is 77 degrees, which is identical to the 43mm on my 6x7, so I can use the external viewfinder for composing.

I know this is a very late reply but thanks for posting these pics, really nice and with the hint of solarization in the last one makes it technically cool too..
