Problem with a lot of these Rollei films is that they are basically rebranded aerial films. And, now that Rollei is out of business their availabilty is only temporary anyway.

Efke would be the only alternative, and it appears to be prohibitively-priced. £80.50 is the equivalent, currently of about $110U.S., which is right in line with the price of the Portra 70mm films available. EUR 83 seems in line, but 166 is CRAZY! That'd come out to the equivalent of EUR 8.30 per 220 length.

I guess that respooling aerial films is a viable option, but I want films that have natural panchromatic sensitivites not extended-reds designed for foliage photography from 20,000 feet!

I've ordered one roll, but if we get close to an order, I'll commit to buy at least one more to help get over the hump. Do keep us posted. This is important, to me, anyway. I have two 70mm backs for my Graflex XL. I don't care if it's perf or not. I can handle two emulsions at once; it's great to have that choice.

Yes, I have a bunch of cold 70mm film. So some of my cold stock goes in one and the fp4 in the other.

-) In the past the Agfa colour aerial films had the same emulsions as their counterparts in the consumer range. At least for the current N400 and Chrome 200 (not available in 70mmm) this is still the case.

-) No kind of Rollei is out of business (as far as I know).
The company Franke & Heidecke (consumer MF TLR, SLR and MF projectors) is in insolvency. There are more `Rolleis´. And insolvency does not neccessarily mean out of business. It depends.
None of them is actually in the film business.

I do. It would have to be an interesting film for me. Wasn't the Agfa B&W aerial near IR?

Nick, there is plenty of old, used "interesting" film out there. Curiosity film at this point is far too small a market to warrant serious consideration.

Besides, you as an individual can probably get Aerial 70mm film individually. Why trouble a business to stock it for you?

I love speculation and side conversations, but let's get serious on this thread, not these continual "if wishes were horses" discussions.

There is some Aviphot chrome 200 on the bay right now.

Just a related item that I did not know even existed - there is a Mamiya RB67 70mm back at KEH right now. I have trouble getting through a single roll of 120 with this camera, so I'm not buying a 70mm back for it; but I'm sure someone here could use it.

There are some easy answers for processing 70mm in jobo tanks. I used standard jobo reels and spaced them apart for the correct width. My spacer was a fuji 35mm plastic canister the film comes in, it's the perfect diameter for spacing the reels. I cut the male end off the spool off, hot glued the fuji canister on then trimmed it to the right length and glued it to the other half. The reel works the same as original but has 70mm spacing. Been using one regularly for 6 or 7 years with no problems. Took about 20 minutes to modify the reel. I also have a longer reel that takes about 8 feet of film (I think, have to check). This is based around the xray reels you can get cheaply, someone already posted the seller earlier. This fits in the 2500 tank. I also have another based on the xray reel that takes about 13 feet of film, I think I used this in a print drum. I have a good supply of film because I had Forte do a run when they were still in business. I offered some here a couple of years back but no one was interested.

clay nz,

Where did you buy the xray reel from that fits in the JOBO 2500 tanks? Does it have to be modified to fit on the plastic spindle that is the light trap inside tank? The JOBO 120 reel you modified, how do you load it? If you had to glue it together how does it rachet back and forth to advance the film onto the reel? Thankyou for bringing these ideas to light. I have always wanted to do 70mm film in my Jobo tanks but thought the only way was to find the very rare 70mm reel from jobo. I have a lot of 70mm in the freezer as well E6, C-41 and B&W but would like some fresh Ilford. I even devised a 70mm film slitter so I could slit some of my 70mm film down to 120 and re-roll it with used backing paper from KOdak 120 film. I works great, especially for those hard to find emulsions like Kodak IR aerial film.

All,
Is this a dead idea, or what??
I went to the Silverprint site, and preordered some for myself.
What is the latest?

70mm film

As far as I know right now, I can't find any 70mm film. I still have several 100' rolls that Agfa was able to dig up for me so I do my best not to waste the film. I found a photo lab in Daytona Beach Flordia that still develops the film. When I get it back I normally scan it first to see what photos I would like to have prints or enlargements made. Sure would be interested in purchasing addtional film if any is still out there someplace.

As a possible extension of the Harman special sheet film production scheme, is there any interest in something similar in FP4/HP5 in 70mm perforated?

......
When we first discussed it, Simon Galley estimated it would need a £20-30k order to kick it off - this then came down to 120 cans, so 60 cans is a big concession from Harman. So is there enough of a user base in 70mm to keep a regular supply of the format on tap, in very popular emulsions? We await the response with interest.

Martin,

I will commit to five cans of HP5. WHile I would normally buy 2 cans at a time, I'm sure I can sell off two cans to other users.

Thanks for taking the lead on this effort.

I have some 70 mm stuff collecting dust. But before thinking about pressing it into service again, it would be good to know the costs. How much for a 100 ft roll of DP 70 mm film?
And can it not be a more modern emulsion than FP4 or HP5? Why not Delta?

.....Having run it past the planners at Harman, they are prepared to cut it as a special order for Silverprint. We would have to order a minimum of 60 cans of 30 metres, in either film type, and keeping it priced as competitively as possible it would sell at £80.00 + VAT per roll. ......

QG,

In Martin's first post of this thread he mentioned a cost of £80.00 + VAT.

As for Delta, my lenses are old and prefer HP-5. Delta would sould like Hip-Hop music to them....

But that was about 20 months ago.

Mine are old too, but have kept up with the times.
Besides, Delta isn't exactly 'fresh' either. But you're right: neither is hip-hop...
Still, rather Delta than FP4 for me. And rather FP4 than HP5.

So by now the price will have gone down, just like computer prices!

I'll buy what the group wants. It's not likely that we will get more than one emulsion. So if it's Delta, I'm still in. I can always use my 110 f/2 Plannar if i need more speed.

That would be something, wouldn't it?

Before the group has decided that the only option is to buy what the group wants, the decision what that will be has to be made.
How about Delta (for the better - in my opinion - emulsion) 400 (for the speed)?

Mind you, i find that ISO 400 film often is much too fast for the f/2 Planar. Good thing that the shutterspeeds go 'up the short end' quite a bit. But still, i want to us ethat lens at f/2, and not stopped down even moderately.
So if in anyway possible, ISO 100 for me?
