Does anyone know when the Ilford 2015 Special Order ulf window will open?

Thanks!

For the 2014 run, Simon Galley posted initial details in February. So it will likely be a while yet before anybody knows about 2015.

You can send Simon a PM asking him those questions and what are the views of Harman on bulk D3200.

D3200 is low volume ie too low volume the days of dark room loads daylight loads and cans of darkroom loads long long past.

Reply All,

Whilst expecting to offer ULF and Custom sizes in 2015 it requires authorization from the Board Of Directors, this is usually requested in January.

As for DELTA 3200 in bulk, that would not happen, 3200 is available in 35mm 36exp and in 120. Therefore we consider a product to be 'available' for use without special manufacture.

Simon, I'm sure you explained somewhere why, despite what so many people think, producing bulk rolls isn't low cost for Harman ?

Could you repeat your explanation again?

Dear pdeeh,

It is lower cost than cassetting, but a more manual process. 35mm Cassetting from pancakes of film 35mm x 610m known as slittings is all automatic from perfing, edge signing to cassetting. In bulk rolls the slittings need to be edge signed and perfed, then slit and boxed, much more manual intervention.

Simon, since you've adequately answered the initial questions, may I ask a tangent question?

I know this might seem sort of crazy or sound silly to you, but I seem to notice that all my special ULF order film in HP5+ in various sizes, well.... It seems to be much finer grained than the HP5+ from normal batch orders of standard film.

Is it possible the special order is coated differently or something? Or the base is different? I've only experienced 46mm, 70mm, and 2.25x3.25 sheets for the special order but they all seem much finer grained than say my HP5+ in 120.

I know there are tons of factors that could be involved here, but just curious if there something different about the process?

Thanks Simon!

Thanks Simon! I'll just order a bunch of the 35mm 36exp rolls from B&H.

I'll echo StudioCarter's question. I need 70mm, but in Delta 100. Mr. Galley, can Delta 100 be cut for 70mm in bulk lengths?

The convention for the currency separator in much of Europe is to use a comma, where in the US and UK a full stop/point/period/decimal point would be used.

Thus €95,00 should be read as €95.00

Dear Stone,

HP5+ sheet film.....is HP5+ sheet film : No difference between ULF production and normal production.

DELTA 100 would not be offered at 70mm sorry :

I have not formally requested Board approval for the 2015 ULF run as yet, I will keep you updated.

Huh???
Making similar prints with ulf vs. large format obviously requires less enlargement. Are you processing the ulf film in the same equipment with the same amt of developer?
What sizes?

Simon,

On the large format forum, the question came up regarding whether Delta 3200 would ever be offered in 4x5 sheets. It seems to me that with more people handholding a camera like the TravelWide, soon to be shipped, a higher speed film would be appreciated. This would require a change to the base, of course.

Is it possible from a technical point of view and something that could be offered through the special order program?

Best,

Larry

Hi Larry

Please see quote in post #21
Where Stone did not understand that all Harman were offering was some different finishing options from current master rolls, which finishing were not currently available.
Your request would be a custom order which would be different timescale and cost.
Stone tried Kodak for a 'custom' finish (4x5) of a production master but it was too expensive for the 4x5 community to meet a minimum order.
Just meeting the minimum order for ULF can be difficult.

Hello Noel,

Oren Grad mentioned that Simon had polled the community back in 2007 for such a film. He said the response was lukewarm. Perhaps it is time to revisit the question. I can start another thread to drum up interest. I kinda wanted to hear from Simon about the feasibility and found him on this thread, although I realize the special order is not the right vehicle for getting this film.
