Sad to say, those people in photo labs are usually woefully underpaid. Reading about new film emulsions on the internet is probably not very high on their list. My wife worked in photolabs for years and is an excellent printer. Her eye for color is way better than mine is, but I was amazed to find out that she doesn't know anything about cameras, though she prints beautifully. She even did custom cibachrome enlarging. However, internet forums or the Kodak website are the last place you'd find her on her off hours. Printing is a separate discipline from negative making that's all I'm saying, and drug stores pay better than fast food joints. I worked in labs, too, and most of the other lab techs were people with a high school education that found something more stimulating than manual labor. Lab techs are just punching a time clock for barely a living wage, don't expect them to share your passion for photography or your excitement about a new emulsion. It's just another variable to them.
Of course there are exceptions, but these are my general observations.
