If I woke up, today, after a 150 year coma, I'd probably read the front page of a newspaper and choose to go back into a coma.

If I woke up after a 200 years coma, I will probably check on the internet, but since I don't have an idea on how to use a computer then I will ask for my relatives to help me out. I will also check the photos from the past and see what I have missed.

Don’t know, but if Ansel Adams woke up today, he would probably go digital.

"I eagerly await new concepts and processes. I believe that the electronic image will be the next major advance. Such systems will have their own inherent and inescapable structural characteristics, and the artist and functional practitioner will again strive to comprehend and control them"

Regards,
Frank

Well, film wasn't invented until the 1880s, so probably photography was seen as cumbersome and/or expensive to most people in 1868 when glass plates were still in use. I would imagine that digital would have more of an appeal, since it would seem so easy and accessible (and probably because that's what all the kids today are using). Would you want to go back to cast iron stoves for cooking, hand washing your clothes, or having no electricity in the home? I worked in a museum set in the 1860s and did the activities people used to do back then as part of my job, and I can tell you it was not an easy life (unless you were super rich).

Good points. What about a 75-year coma?

John:
Were you watching this scene when you thought of this thread:

no, but i should have, the orb sounds like fun.

i was mainly thinking of how advanced and backwards photography has become
and how it is ez to be stuck in 1840 or 1910 or 2017 .. or anythng in between ..
fun, interesting, and cellphone cameras make it so youdon't have to be rich to make photos

i gotta run, the tigers milk is getting cold

You would still find a thread on Photrio posted only a day or so before waking up, about bringing back Kodachrome :D

If I had spent 200 years in a coma as an 18 year old, and then woke up, I would probably be thinking more about women/girls than cameras.

+1 The first thought would be if his equipment still worked, and then the realization that 200 years had reduced his libido.

Then he would be amazed that one did not have to sit in a chair with a head brace to have a portrait taken, the reduced size of the camera equipment and the improved optics. Walking across a street, since he did not know about cars, he would get run over and die.
