Noooooo – not selling.

However – there is market value. There is sentimental value. There is insurance value. There is what-would-it-cost-to-replace value.
Then there is “what you paid for it in the first place value – with value depending on WHEN you bought it in the first place”!!
Hah! Have you thought of that one?

So anyway – all together, IF I sold all my stuff (which ain’t happenin’), I know I wouldn’t get what I paid for it!
Worth on the market? Well, just dang!
Sentimental value? Some of it priceless, most, not-so-much
Insurance value – actually not sure
Cost to replace it? Yikes! (which doesn’t seem fair with the market)
What I paid for it vs what I would end up paying for it now? Huge difference!

Why would I want to sell my lonhof Tech III, rolleiflex,rolleicord,F3, B&J 5x7 and cambo 4x5 monrail????? What would I get that would be better? I have the luxury of not having to make a living at photography and as such I can do it for the pure art aspect.
If I needed to make a living at it i would get the DSLR and do the mindless school/wedding/stock thing as it would be more efficent and productive. There are great images made with the DSLR but I find the depth of a silver gelatine print or alt process images more asethetically pleasing than an injet image. That said arguing which is better is much the same as Van Gogh and Paul Gauguin arguing about which brush is better. And I might add the pure art market is a much tougher living than I want to make.

hmm... this really is an interesting thread. my f2 with 50mm prime, in perfect condition could probably fetch maybe 600 bucks, and my cambo monorail with two lenses and nearly 70 film holders could probably fetch near the same. i could maybe get another 150 out of my om-1 and my eos a2. so thats about 1450 in camera gear.

as far as the darkroom goes, i could probably fetch near 10 grand if i really tried. But there is no way id ever sell my whole collection, considering that a lot of it was given to me. I honestly believe that i will have a lot of my collection until i die (i am 17 years old at this point in time)

Rich is relative. Would you really be rich if you just sold one of your key sources of enjoyment? Monetarily, maybe. You know the rest.

I've contemplated this many times, and even added up what I'd spent on fleabay. Probably about $15k IIRC, might push $20k if I included the freezer full of film. There's a few expensive bits, like my 7D would go for nearly a grand still, and the 70-300L for $1500. But all the rest I've bought 2nd hand, at bargain prices, often in lots where parting it out would bring in more than I paid. No other single item I've paid more than $500. (except the 8x10", that was maybe $550 shipped)

But I'm too lazy for all that, I'm just gonna leave it in the cupboard and shoot everything occasionally...

My Rollei 6008 Pro, two lenses for it, one PQS, and one 150mm f/4 PQ, Rollei Polaroid back 6X6, Rollei Polaroid back, and accessories for it, battery, charger full kit, sold. Sold the Nikon D800, Nikkor 85mm 1.4D, 28mm 2.8 AIS, Nikon 50mm 1.8D, and stuff, etc.. I can't recall the rest, but it was sold to pay bills after my daughter's fight and win, of that pesky son of a b1tch cancer, ovarian, and malignant, however the doctor one of the finest, was able to remove it all is one fell swoop, thank you God for sending us Rebecca, and her crew! the chemo helped too of course! So in the end it was well worth selling it of course! The funny thing is, I sold my old truck to buy them! The great thing is I was able to liquidate a few things, except my FNP-40, since they didn't wanna give me enough for it, so, i was able to buy a mamiya rb67 pro and stuff, plus eventually my current awesome Pentacon Six TL! I loved all my systems, from my zeiss 35mm 1.4 and zeiss 28mm 2.8 and canon 5d mk2, and the canon 5d plus canon 85mm 1.2 mk2 was awesome and the multiple nikons too

For me: beside M3 and M6 Leicas and couple of Leitz lenses I have no expensive stuff, I spend more on film and papers then on cameras and lenses. Specially FB papers are expensive, but all is a part of the game .

As many have already said, there is too much enjoyment and sentimental value in our equipment. I actually use everything I have and won't sell anything.

I have no accurate idea of what my cameras are worth. For each camera below, I've got two or more good lenses for it. For example, an AF Nikkor 135/2 DC., a Mamiya 140/4.5 C, or a 90/2.8 Elmarit M, in addition to the normal lenses.

The real problem for me is that I have truly no-one to pass these on to when I'm gone. If I'm still around 10 years from now, I'll be quite surprised. So, be nice to me and you may get something
