I just acquired an Olympus Infinity SuperZoom 330 from a kind soul on APUG. If anyone has this camera, please contact me via PM or here. I'm trying to confirm its functionality and there is a rather strange behavior in film loading process. (Yes, I read the manual)

If I remember correctly, the film loads by emptying the cassette and then winding back into the cassette as you snap. Is that what you are asking about?

Nope....

As soon as I drop the cartridge in, the motor starts winding. Then stops. I do the "position the leader" thing and close the door, then it winds again. There are couple other weird behavior I've noticed concerning this loading procedure.

I had one that wouldn't load the film. The problem was the plastic gears had stripped and rendered the camera useless.

Guys...

Here's what I'm seeing. When I open the back, sometimes, not always, the motor runs. When I pop the film canister in (but before I pull the leader in place or close the door) the motor runs. So obviously I have to wait. Then I close the lid, the motor runs and sets the frame 1 into position. Seems this camera is pretty intelligent. As I place/pull the film for this test, it seems to be resetting itself. I've never seen P&S cameras do this. Usually, the motor doesn't run until I close the door. Anyone?

I have a oly infinity of a similar sort of name- not at hand here where I am typing.

Nice and compact, good optics. after many years of pleasant use, it gets to mid roll then seems to lock up and go brain dead sometimes.

New battery, or taking battery in and out sometimes reboots the thing, and you loose some shots mid roll, or it winds the film all the way back. Other times though, you need to open it in the darkrrom and slowly pull the unexposed film off of the take off drum. Too frustrating.

So mine is now a shelf queen, talked about as how neat it was only. I suspect it is some sort of drying out capaictor problem, much like what plagues the Monolta X line.
Only this time it screws up the whole camera, ratehr than just the metering and ultimately shutter release in the Minoltas, where getting the film in and out is a manual affair.

This one is PRETTY BIG! Sort of look like a cross between a video camera and a P&S and an SLR.... a weird looking thing. The symptom resembles some intermittent/accidental contact of some switches or sensors. Oh well.
