I must be a geek, because this has me excited. I've used Wein cells in my F1, but they die very quickly. Thanks!

Dale

Old news to me.
Isn’t that one of those that always pop up in articles on the subject.
Like this one: https://www.ebay.com/itm/New-MR-9-B...-/161841461459?_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49292
Still not cheap enough to just buy a bunch and put one in very camera, as would be the ideal situation.
Get’s pretty tiresome to hunt for the body with the adapter and then switch it over.

Not sure why you are posting a listing to one that is 50% more expensive, and I'm sorry simple things are tiresome for you. But there you have it, the wet blankets of Photrio..

You're welcome Dale! It's nice being able to use old cameras as intended w/o messing around with them. Plus it fits/works perfectly and is so nicely made.

It goes for varying prices. Same with the one you posted. They are about the same.
It’s not tiresome. I just wanted to hear if there is anything special about it? Doing a search for the adapter is rather trivial and adapters with diodes have been on the market for decades.
If I didn’t see the point of the thread I’d simply not reply.
But of course like anyone who owns and uses mercury 625 dependent cameras, I do have somewhat of an interest in this topic.

Edit: It appears the prices of the old MR-9 adapter has risen generally since last I checked.
It’s the usual eBay BS with the shipping price.

Congratulations, it seems you have actually found a good, nice and cheaper alternative.

I’m going to look forward to peoples experience with it in this thread.

I have bought a number of the ~$20 adapters for my cameras and light meters. Given how much I am willing to spend on CLA’s and accessories, I think the $20-30 investment is awfully minimal and solves all the PX625 issues that get whined about so much.

I have one in each body or meter that needs one. No hunting required.

That’s a lot of money into adapters.
Especially with stuff like the first Lunasix that wants two 625 mercury cells.

Yes, it costs money but it’s worth it. I really don’t have too many cameras that need the adapter so it’s well worth it. For Gossen I spent twice the “normal price” and got their adapter that was built for 2 cells. Convenience sometimes trumps cost.

I was happy to pay double “normal price” to Gossen plus the service fee to have my reliable, fully calibrated Luna Pro. I just can’t get worked up even a little over the cost- I have all the cameras and lenses (and then some!) that I ever wanted as a kid for literally pennies on the dollar. $100-200 in adapters to solve the PX625 issue is not consequential. I am really happy I acquire and use the photo gear I always wanted- instead of something like classic cars (which gets very expensive!).

.

The seller charges $9 to ship from Thailand to the USA.
That is with declaring the value of the product to be $4.

When I go to the USPS (the USA postal service) website, the absolute cheapest I can get a letter, with value of 0, to Thailand is $8.90.

Where is the BS with shipping price?

I think the way to go is when often changing cameras (not during a session) to take out the cell/adapter combo and just have it ready at place with other ready-to-use items.

For the money-saving tinkerer there is this 2007 comprehensive report with solutions:

To have a cell installed within a camera permanently one way would be to modify the camera electrically and mechanically, by this being able to finetune the choice of diode to the meter in question.

Not the one you linked (of course, I’m tempted to add). The older type.
Seems they are sucking an old production run dry for all it’s worth.

Two SR-t bodies, two Hi-Matic a Nikkormat and a vintage Lunasix. All stuff I actually use.
And you’re up to almost $300.
That’s a lot of film and printing.

Batteries always feel like stupid money.
I know adapters is a one time spend. But still.
You hear people whine over the price of scanners or push developer economy to ridiculous lengths.
Yet, I’m not supposed to think several hundred dollars for battery adapters is stupid?

Sure, I’ll live and probably accumulate the right number of them over the years. But I’d still say, they could be cheaper without flexing quality, and there is definitely a market for that.
It’s quite often that you hear PX 625 dependency used as a detractor for a given camera.

Cut you costs... dump the old cameras with obsolete batteries.

I think I don't have any camera left that needs them. But I never saw the need, as hearing aid batteries are crazy cheap if bought online. My Lunasix I adjusted to read correctly with silver oxide cells.
I certainly wouldn't buy adapters for all devices that need them, but swap them around into what I actually use. I do the same with batteries because they get often get drained over time, or could even leak.

I remove the batteries from all my gear if I am not using them. Just the smart thing to do - I've seen batteries leak in their packages!
So unless you are using multiple cameras at the same time, one adapter is all I need. It's a simple process - I put it in the camera I am using, remove it when I am done.

See the problem is you.

I created this thread specifically to direct people to the one adapter that I provide a link to. So people can easily access that information.

You jump in, complaining about it, using the excuse that other adapters sold elsewhere cost too much, and their shipping fees are too high. And you can't remember which camera you put the adapter in.

That has nothing to do with this thread. All you have done is muddy the waters and possibly make it confusing for others. Who cares about a different product that you have a problem with?

This thread is about this adapter which is excellent, and can be bought here with reasonable shipping costs and quick turnaround time:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/MR9-MR-9-P...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2648

Again, I have no connection with the seller, just a very happy customer posting this in case others find it useful.

You have choices.

You can have your gear modified to work with modern batteries. That would be about $80 per unit - which for you would be 6 items @ $80 = $240. Not including shipping costs if you don't have a local place.
You can buy 6 adapters @$22 = $132. (+$9 to ship)
You can buy 1 adapter = $22. (+$9 to ship)

Or you can just sit around and complain that, through the choices that you willingly made, batteries are stupid and stuff costs too much.

What are you on about‽
You passed your message about the adapter. That leaves the thread open for other talk.

Seems you have an idea of a feeling of ownership over a thread in forums by the OP.
It’s a forum, that means anyone can and should talk.

I congratulated you on the find, when I saw the real price of the adapter, and wrote I’d look forward to real world experience from any buyers, but took the “liberty” to answer some other posters replying to me.

That’s how a a forum works.

It’d be something else entirely if you had asked a question that hadn’t been answered, and I hijacked the thread for something tangential or not related.

Wow thanks! What would I do without brilliant advice such as this?
