Equal time means nothing. Division is created on cultural and other issue to distract from actual problems we face and who created it. Democrats and republicans represent the same interest. Everything else is just a distraction.

If what you stated were true then the two parties would have no problem moving bills through both houses and getting signed by the President, but that is not what the real world is about.

In this war, the biggest battle was the battle for Kyiv. Kyiv was almost surrounded and the Russians were already destroying our warehouses with food in the hope of breaking the resistance. Tragedy was averted only thanks to general armament. At that time, the front line was everywhere, including on the streets of Kyiv, and reporters could easily get access there. Have you been to Ukraine. Do you really think that the inscription "Press" matters to Russians? Why should I trust the "Independent" journalist more than the official one? Where does the Independent Journalist get its funding from? Perhaps from the Kremlin?

The Independent reporters get money from the reports they sell not from governments, Kremlin versus the rest of the World.
Press means a potential hostage pool to be used every time the Russian get backed into a corner or are terribly embarrassed.

If you have concerns about moderation, this is not where you should be raising them.

War photography is a very small subset of photo-journalism. It requires a very particular set of skills and approaches. I'm not sure that it makes sense to extrapolate from the situation there when one considers the general state of photo-journalism.
Video has largely supplanted still photography (and movie work) when it comes to merely sharing information about current events.
Most photo-journalism in the past was straightforward reportage. Modern photojournalists often need to be more essayists than reporters.

Taking photographs while bullets are flying around is a target rich environment, but remember Custer died in a target rich environment. The moving around when the shooting has stop, is often not a pleasant view.

100% agree.

So my summery:

In a war best way to survive as a journalist:
Dont have a weapon.
Or if you do hide it. Don‘t let other people know you have one. Even if you are drinking together.
Don’t run errands or help ether side.
Don‘t get involved with ether side.
Dont get drunk and blabber about you supporting one side or another. Be Apolitical.
You will be surprise how many of the same faces you will see working with both sides.
Have a press helmet and vest.

P.S. If you get in a car with solders chances are you can get taken out with them.
Do interviews with military underground away from artillery.

A picture is worth 1000 words.
A lot of time a picture can have a different and stronger affect than a video.
Especially if you want to create a narrative one single frame can support that nerative.

The phrase that comes to mind here is "preaching to the choir".
And in case that doesn't survive translation, by that I mean you are arguing a position to a group that are likely already in agreement with it - most here believe in the power of the still image.
But as we are discussing photo-journalism as a whole, I'd suggest that the market has mostly moved on to pictures that move and can be experienced in short periods of time, only to be replaced with the next snippet of information.

I was in Ukraine with sky news for 4 months and nobody let us go anywhere close to the front line.
I honestly have not seen front line coverage like in other wars.

Photojournalism as only as good as censorship allows. Unfortunately, we're only getting what governments want us to see to propagandize us. That is why it's so important that we don't play with our photos and add to the bias.

The loss of Equal Time on cable has led to a weaponization of News which turned into a fake new industry on cable and the highly partizan politics of today. A great leap backward for all.

Maybe we have more partisan politics today because we now get to hear different sides of issues when before we only got one side. Blogs, social media, thousands of cable channels, etc allow all kinds of views to be espoused. Anyone can post pictures not just newspapers. The founders of American democracy hated power and set up the government to divide rule. That's why we have so many checks and balances before laws get passed. Divided government weakens government and rule and helps keep people free to argue a lot and go their own way. Just like in this forum. Can you imagine if someone was allowed to dictate which camera or film you have to use?

I am not a Western Ukrainian, I am an Eastern Ukrainian. I am from the city of Yenakiyevo, this is the birthplace of Yanukovych. In the photo of Bucha a year ago. Ukrainians saw it like this after the aggressor fled. If you have a real desire it is very easy to organize a meeting with people who have gone through Russian occupation. But these people must trust the journalist. Otherwise, they will not be as tolerant as I am and can become very aggressive. They need to be understood, they have gone through Hell.

I take a small Pentax WG-2 and try to shoot without attracting attention or annoying people. The first thing we see when we leave the yard are anti-tank hedgehogs. There are not many of them left, they are kept in case of a new attack.

We go further and see the destroyed houses. A rocket flew here a year ago. People died. I heard and saw it at that moment I was going to the store for bread

This is the same store. A year ago, there were no cars here, people were only armed, and the store sold only bread that was baked here. Now it is a full-fledged supermarket. And even the charging station works
