Back in the 50s, 60s and into the first couple of years of the 70s, gas stations routinely had "Gas Wars". Stations would slash prices in competition with each other. Large placards would be placed out front with the words Gas War! Even though it was not long after WWII, there did not seem to be much clamor about the use of the term. However in 1973, suddenly the Gas Wars were over. Gas won...

I didn't read all the posts but I'm going to contribute anyway...

Personally, I like the 2:3, 1:2 and 2:5 ratios. I, as a "standard", DON'T like more square ratios. But that's just me...

Kodak did GOOD, IMHO.

As a side note, it's strange, given the Asian's importance of "balance", that the Japanese EVER argued against the "golden ratio".

AHH! but dear ambaker, DAVID LYGA was not the one shouting 'war' at that distant time. Therefore, at that time, decades ago, the word passed the censors, adroitly. 'War' was not the issue with this forum. Outspokenness was. You will NEVER hear a negative remark about Ronald Reagan's War against Drugs on this humble forum because, you see, he is judged to be America's hero (even though the 'war' did and does far more harm than good. It is not actual accomplishments that matter in our sordid society, ambaker. Instead, it is perception and machismo that grease America's wheels.

You have to understand that many negative comments have their births in aspects about a person that we are not 'allowed' to bring up. We then, to 'get around' the restriction, find other methods of attack that will pass credibility. The 'attack' against MY use of the word 'war' (by both the patrons and the moderator, albeit through 'pressure' to her credit) came about not for the unsanctified use of that actual word, but came about as proxy for the hatred that there is out there for people who are decidedly different, like me. When you have the glorious, laborious combination of being 1) queer, 2) leftist, 3) anti-military and a pacifist, 4) have little fear of protocol, 5 are agnostic, 6) and, finally, have no job, you are decidedly one to neither promote nor even put up with. We are acculturated into wanting winners only in America. And, ambaker, you had better watch it or you will surely suffer the same dire (and, actually delightful because it confirms my own validity) fate.

I don't go through life 'hiding' from anyone. - David Lyga
