If such a list should be made. What better place would there be than Apug?

But...
Doing this seriously would involve constant updating by people knowing what they are doing. I mean before someone would do some big order on some material he rather starts researching himself before employing some weird list. This controlled updating however needs some formalism, a working group or so. Something which is unfamiliar to this volatile group.

This is my concern also.

Hence my added emphasis [bold type] in your quote.

My original intent with this was to clear up the European mumbo-jumbo of films.

And, looking around, it does seem as if it's been suggested and never completed at least a few times.

If anyone does actually want to do this, and will be willing to help, I can try to co-ordinate and lead up a project.

If not, then oh well!

I think that's a sensible idea, so where do you want to start?

First I'd like to get a few members here to commit to actually working on this; I don't have the knowledge, time, or information access to do the whole thing from start to finish.

Once we have that, we should gather any info that we can, from catalogs, websites or direct contact to the companies in question. Perhaps one person (or two) can work on talking to the companies, another person (or two) can look online. It would be great to have somebody from Europe on this, as they'd probably have better access to some of the info than I do here in the States. We'll then present what we have, and organize it further from the pool of information.

I'd say start with films, then worry about papers later.

Thanks, Ole, I'll check that out.

One of the problems with this is that a lot of manufacturers' information isn't even consistent with itself, the data sheet will say one thing and different parts of their web sites others, press releases still others, all incomplete or conflicting.

What is in my list took a truly horrendous amount of work, and the process of building it has convinced me that it is actually impossible to make such a list in final, perfect form. You can get close-ish, but I don't think it's possible to actually get there.

Good point there, Nicolai, about inconsistent info from even the same manufacturer.

Is it possible that they might not even know internally what it is?

That is to say, could they just use stock of whatever film happens to be available to them at the time?

And, as I said, anyone who actually wants to assemble and maintain a list, let me know; hopefully this can happen.

Echoing jstraw here: if you start digging the APUG forums, you should get at least a comprehensive list of contentious issues concerning the EE producers, and a good overview of the answers so far. No need to reinvent the wheel.
