I've never shot an F2, never even seen one in person... but I think I'd probably do some seriously sketchy stuff for this thing. Oh why can't prostitution be legal?

They are my favorite 35mm body. Everything is placed perfectly, saying that. I sold all my f2’s and shoot a f3hp for my slide film. I no longer even try to shoot 35mm black and white anymore, its always a let down looking at prints.

I see the following sprinkled throughout the ad:

- Unused in box

- Condition: Used

- It shows minimal signs of use

- It works properly

So is it unused or not?

What people often don’t consider when looking at buying a “virgin” camera that’s 40 years (or more) old is that it’s never been exercised. None of its moving parts have ever moved. Lubricants dry out and start to glue components together. Sure, it might be just fine, or it could easily require a complete overhaul in order to be usable.

File this under “be careful what you ask for”

The jealous side of me wants to agree with you, and say that "if its too good to be true". But I think in terms of metal fatigue etc... I'd rather pay for a CLA to get things unstuck, than to have to try and replace parts that have worn thin from 40 years of use.

Either way it's a moot point because unless some wealthy horn dog pulls up in his limo outside requesting filthy acts of perversion in exchange for showers of franklins... it's never gonna happen. On the flip side though, I am in line with Sovern Wong to have the F2 John gave me restored. I've got approximately 450 days, so if I save $1 a day until then, I'll have enough to pay for it.

If it's in good condition, I wouldn't bother until something stops working or the shutter speeds are way off. But, it's your call. Enjoy!

I'm just pointing out the fact that many prospective buyers will look at that listing and see nothing but A Golden Opportunity when in fact there are potential hazards to buying such a camera: its not like you're going to whip it out of its box and its gonna work like its 1975 and its fresh off the assembly line.

That said, I have a Nikon F from 1971 that I bought for $70 a few years ago, and its clearly well-used and yet it works flawlessly.

Nah... it's more like finding a never driven classic corvette in a barn. You'd have to change the tires, and belts, and spark plugs, and put oil in it.... but when it does finally fire up and the rubber meets the road.....

Hey, it's cheaper than a "new-in-box" Leica. Just don't ever use it and one day you can ask $10k for it.

F2 came out when I a teenager, I had a good job in high school, so I had disposable income. I bought a black F2S. To my fellow camera nerds I was on top of world. I've got F and F2 bodies I have collected over the years. They still work great. I never liked the LED display in the S models, that was a marketing thing and it supported the ridiculous EE Servo for shutter priority auto exposure.

I need to post some photos of my "new" F2. I'm the third owner, but it looks Mint, to my eye. It came with a 24mm f2 non-AI lens in great shape.

There are probably thousands of "unused" F2s in the hands of collectors. In some cases, not even taken out of the box. They'll dribble onto the market slowly as these collectors see another shiny toy they have to clutch in their non-photographer fingers. Just be patient.
