I hope the NE apug members who were hard hit by that storm last night are ok. I know Suzanne seemed to be right in the middle of it.... Many lost power which might be out over the weekend. Let us know how you fared....ok?

OK here Drew. The lower Pioneer Valley got all rain and lots of it. People were more worried about flooding in my area. The surrounding hill towns are a mess though, with trees and limbs down and many power outages.

We got hit with freezing rain and rain in New Brunswick,Canada.Lots of power outages and school closures.It's gonna be a b%&$h getting around tomorrow when the whole mess freezes.

Keep yer stick on the ice.
 
I remember here in 94 we had an ice storm. It was kinda coated from Dover to Rehoboth but Milford and Harrington, De. were in the heaviest path and we had everything coated with 2 inches of ice. It was eerie that night. Complete silence except for the falling rain and the crack and crash of tree limbs in the woods.

This storm we had 2.5" of rain as it was. I kinda wish it was as cold as originally forecast. We'd be wading in the white stuff and this would be coming from home.

Be safe, but my experience with ice storms growing up in Arkansas was you got great potential for some interesting pictures, both day and night.
 
We were badly hit last night... it sounded awful, especially as a tree pulled down the power off the side of our house!! :surprised: We're all ok, but I have the studio space (I'm here for a few), and we'll be bundling up tonight. Brrrr...
 
I wish I was a photographer in '94. Back in the day I was an unmotivated snapshootist.
 
The ice was everywhere, but didn't do us any harm. Schools were closed and the roads were dicey early this morning, but the whole mess melted and disappeared by noon. I did shoot a roll of Delta 100, and have posted one of those here as a neg scan. Unlike Suzanne, for whom I have the utmost sympathy, we escaped unscathed.
 
We had tons ofrain in RHode ISland but it warmed up. Just a little water in my basement. Glad everyone is ok.
It sounded nasty in the wee hours.
 
John, those shots are beautiful. We are supposed to get our first major storm of the season this weekend. Of course it will pale in comparison to what you East Coasters are having to deal with but we'll have our own worries. There are so many burn areas and with that comes the chance for mudslides and worse. I hope everyone stays safe.

Up here in the Hilltowns (I'm in Charlemont) it was location i.e. elevation dependent. Our house is in the Deerfield River Valley and our elevation was low enough that we're unscathed and have power, etc. However, I tried to head up into the hills and was met with downed trees, veeeeeeeery low hanging power lines and lots of crews clearing the trees from the roads. In a word, ugly up there. I also drove through northern Worcester Coounty yesterday and it appears to be one of the harder hits areas in the state.

I drove from Boston to the Ct River valley last evening after the storm. Rt 2 was narrowed considerably by trees that had been bent over onto the road surface and frozen solid. The crews were still working at 5 PM to clear the travel lanes in many of the towns between Fitchburg and Erving. My heart goes out to those of you who have a line down somewhere between you and civilization. It looks like it's going to be a long time in the reconnecting out there.
 
Our town/neighborhood got hammered. Power has been out since early Friday morning, lines are down all around us.
There are fallen trees hanging on some of the wires here and there.

When we got up Friday one of the wires was down across the driveway. Later more falling branches pulled the power attachment and phone lines off the house. We have a few fallen trees in the yard and tons of branches on the ground.

OTH the woodstove can heat the whole house, and we have plenty of wood. We had extra water packed away (had to drain the print washer today though), and the fridge needed to get cleaned out anyway.
Plus the crystal-coated trees are quite a sight.

We'll be "camping" in the house for a week or two, phone works but no power for anything else. Thank goodness for Panera and free wireless internet.

Glad to hear other folks came through ok.

Faring well in Maine. Power wasn't out long, either. I think we were fortunate this time around.
 
Here in eastern NY we had quite a bit of ice. We were lucky - we were without power yesterday, but service was restored by about 7pm last night. Our town's emergency management hotline reported tonight that there are some areas in the town were electrical service won't be restored until Wednesday night.

Yeah, living here in the great Northeast is a challenge.

I just spoke with my parents in ME. Apparently, the Sebago Lake area was spared. Their power went out for about 5 hours on Friday and they can get around without much problem. Usually they are the ones who get hammered.

I took another drive around this afternoon and the damage is really extensive in our area. It's beautiful to see, but I'd think differently if I had to come home to a cold house and no water. After seeing the work ahead for the linemen if power is restored in the next week it'll be because of an incredible effort on their behalf.

Mono do you work in the Arts Center? That looks like congress park to me. I'm another Saratoga Native. The one nice thing about the storm - no work for the last 3 days and my sister has come to visit from NH because they don't have power there.

I'm still without power at home... but we've dodged the broken pipe nightmare. We managed to get the coal stove fired up, which got the house temp. up to a balmy 45 degrees F. But spent the night at a friends. Our street's power was restored on Friday, but individual houses that lost the connection to the street are still without. They think they will get to all the houses by today... knock wood!! This has been rough to say the least... but I suppose it could have been far worse....

Actually, I work at home. I'm an ORG - old retired guy. That's the view out the front window looking up the street.

But I am a member of the Arts Center, and have a photograph hanging in the current Winter Solstice show. Haven't been in to see it yet, but I suspect its somewhere in that dark back hall where they always put the photography.:mad:
 
It's good to see people getting through this one. I'm in the Nashua Library, not Panera, for my wifi connection. My town seems hit far harder than the last 'big' ice storm (1997?), and we didn't get power back for 5 days then. Broken trees, wires and power poles abound. The house has heat, and I have a generator for the well pump and some light, so we're thankful. On the bright side, my kids are adjusting to a computer free life :rolleyes:
