I wrote to Shanghai film about their 220 availability

I wrote to SHANGHAI JIANCHENG TECHNOLOGY PTY LTD asking when GPX 400 220 would be available in the US.
They responded soon, and I could place a bulk film pre-order which would be shipped directly to me.

So... I asked what size a bulk order would be, and how much...

I can't be the only one interested in 220 film! Any user of a Fuji GW690 must be into this!! 16 shots per roll people.

I'm definitely interested in finding out more about the emulsion itself as well - 220 is a useful option to have when using Pentax 67's too.

Thanks for taking the trouble to get info direct from Shanghai. So at least it looks like a certainty but with what may be a sting in the tail in terms of bulk orders and what size this is. Had it any reason to believe you were a retailer or some kind of a bulk seller such as we see on the likes of e-bay? What may be a reasonable minimum order quantity for the above categories may not be reasonable for a user.

Because it would be easy to order the film alone (in a very large quantity) from either Ilford or Kodak.

Its available to buy in China by the looks, about $8USD. Expect significant markup if anyone sells in the US (have to cover shipping and have a markup to make it worthwhile).

Well, 220 was always close to twice the price of 120. If this runs twice the cost of GP3 400 in 120, that's just about right.

Yes. 220 rolls. I did not present myself as a dealer or some such thing. Just asked when it would be available.

Looks like QED. Shanghai has done the job. It has the monopoly of the 220 market and somehow has managed to do it at a profit. In terms of price it would look as if we can eliminate dumping at below cost to destroy the opposition as there is none and based on what has been stated by Ilford and what people know or have assumed about the viability of 220 production there is never likely to be any opposition that Shanghai will have to face

If it's cost competitive (i.e. little or no higher than two rolls of 120), I'd consider it. I have one 220 back for my RB67; 20 frames on a roll isn't a bad thing, and of course Paterson developing reels will accept 220.

The cheapest 120 400 ISO film in the US is about $4.80 before tax/shipping. But it's 120 film.

These 220 rolls may have a Huawei chip installed.

I wonder if this is just a 120 film spooled as 220. According to Ilford 220 film is a different beast altogether due to lack of backing paper and need to use different base material (or some special treatment) to boost its durability.
