I was going through my old American Photographer mag's

from the early 80's on up to when they went down the toilet (American Photo). Boy some of those old mags are gems. Lots of great features on past and present (at the time) photographers including interviews. Lots of B&W too.

Do you happen to know who owns the rights to the (often defunct) magazines? I know Nat.Geographic has an enormous audience so for them it was easy to republish the magazines of the first hundred years. BTW I liked them a lot.

Next month i will be moving to a smaller place, and I must get rid of a lot of old stuff.
I will have to decide upon a lot of old French Photo from the time the magazine was not a fashion oriented one.
Just as an info, at that time David Hamilton wrote to them stating that they had the best quality at printing his photos...

Sorry I missed this when it was new. Thanks for the kudos on Camera & Darkroom. I am working with Aggie and Per on a new magazine and hopefully we will be able to build on the C & D legacy and create something even better.

I am working with some students to create a fully online photo magazine.

We have about 20 stories up right now and are working on more every day.

By the way, Steve Werner at Outdoor Photographer bought the name Camera & Darkroom from LFP, Inc and killed it. I have all the old issues and would love to sell them on CD but in my opinion Werner hates me and would never allow it.

OK - C&D was just stopping when I regained interest in b&w art photography. I have the last issue carefully preserved. Good luck in the present interprises. I'm looking foward with the greatest interest in the new work(s).

Although I haven't heard the tape I have been given some of the quotes and it sounds like really good stuff.

Wish I could give Thom a big in person hug. His joining the magazine project got it jump started and back on track after 7 months of waiting for Per and I to be allowed to move forward. (long story) I can't say enough good things about this man. He is wonderful.

I have a video tape of Arnold Newman at work, from the television series, "The Wonderful World of Photography", sponsored by Olympus.
Fascinating to watch him at work.
I wonder -- his camera seemed to be an extension of his body -- I can't envision him using a digi - whiz bang. Possibly when they introduce an 8" x 10" digital back ...?

One of my favorite quotes, as he worked - from that tape: "There is a photograph here - somewhere. I have to find it."

At times, when things are not going right - especially in the studio, I can be heard to mumble, "Oh right -- the wunnerful world of photography ..."

Jorge - I had the same experience last year. Went through a bunch of old photo magazines to clip out "the good stuff." I was amazed at how little was timeless and how much was only relevant for a few months after publication. But I guess that's pretty much how magazines are - usually only good for a couple of months....

Thom's e-magazine is the one that is a mix of analog and digital. The hold in your hands or for Dr. Bob on the crapper type of magazine is all analog. Here is a small working version of the logo. It is not finished and needs some tweaking. Per is the one doing the logo.
