Well the poor FE is the very first camera in 50+ years of photography that I have thrown into the garbage. I was on exposure 28 of a 36 and it locked up. Mirror went up, would not come down no matter what I did. The camera was problematic right from the start so I am not surprised. Being a left eyed shooter having to have the winding lever out to turn on the meter was a PITA as well. Oh well I gave it a chance.

I developed the roll and the exposures were "ok" but the images for the most part were not as sharp as I expected. Could be the camera had been dropped at some point and things were out of alignment or the Series E lens is a dog. I kept the lens so will try it on my F5. It's not like I need it, I have sharp 50mm Nikkor lens. If it still produces soft images, and yes I tried it all various f stops, it goes in the trash as well.

You should have sent it to me. I would have paid shipping and bought you a beer.

That sucks Don. My EL, the predecessor of the FE works like a well oiled machine, as most of them still do.

Years ago I got an FE for my Wife from a Widow Lady with 28mm f2.5. 50mm f1.8. 105mm f2.5 lenses all for £ 90 and she won a few awards at Brentwood Photographic Club with prints done on it -- now she never uses it -- uses a blasted PHONE so I have 'Taken It Over' and occasionally use it but when she gets annoyed in a bad mood 'Punishes me ' by saying she wants to SELL the FE -- I keep it hidden in my darkroom and never mention it --

Well the FE and the FM are amongst Nikon's less reliable cameras, but I still love my FE. I did have some intermittent failures with my previous FE. My current FE looks mint, let's see how it fares.

I have two EL's, and one Nikkormat (plus the FE) . They all work just fine.
