Both Op Tech and Domke gripper straps have quick releases which the O.P. said he didn't want.

Domke straps can be purchased w/o quick release buckles. Though their quick release is a brass buckle. Far less likely to accidentally come undone than a plastic clip.

You need some of that titanium reinforced kevlar that is rumored to be used by NASA.It hold 30,000 pounds is bullet proof, rust proof and weighs 3.2 grams per ft. its only 394.50 a foot, but you have to buy a 5000 ft spool of it to get that price.

None of my Domke straps have quick releases. And even if they did, they would not be the scary plastic clip type that people tend to be afraid of (needlessly, as I already opinied). Domke's QRs that I have seen are like an oversized necklace clasp.

I just recently got the Op/Tech straps and definitely way better than the manufacturer straps. If you aren't sure you might not like them but want to try them for cheap, go to their website and go to the Sidewalk Sale tab. The straps here are either being discontinued or don't meet certain quality standards so they are being sold at a big discount.

Crumpler The Industry Disgrace Strap Is by far the best strap I have ever used. I keep my RB67 as well as a Mamiya C330 attached to one each. I can carry either all day.

Quick release straps make tripod use much more convenient though. Ive never had a buckle pop out on me, knock on wood.

Though I do kinda like the retro thin straps nowadays, even though they cut into you a bit on the neck.

Its funny how everyone carries their camera on their shoulder now, even if the strap is a neck strap lol.

I have only been carrying cameras on my shoulder since the mid '80's.

On another note, can anyone recommend a strap with the small cable loops at each end for premium compact cameras, ones with small strap lugs on each side? Namely, my Klasse S. The one it came with is a bit bungy in my opinion.

Gordy's make a line of this type strap. Seems like a lot of folks on rff like them

It's just too hard to justify the cost when I can buy my "Canon Professional" Domke straps for $10

HAHA! I've got a canon professional domke on my... Nikon. Such a great strap though, you can have that camera around your neck all day and it will still not be bad at all. It's without a doubt in my mind, the best strap you can get. All the domke stuff is really, I've got a couple Domke bags that were passed down from my dad, that are at least 20 years old, used as his bag every day. These things have seen a lot of use, still going strong.

After having an older OP/TECH strap fail on me one day (one of the nylon sleeves that holds the loops for the webbing part of the strap broke at the holder for the neoprene strap, causing a Nikomat FTn with 105/2.5 start falling toward the ground), I started switching to the Domke Gripper straps. That was more than five years ago. At the moment, three of the four Nikons I own all have the Gripper straps on them. The F4s, one of the rare Emerald Edition 1" wide straps, and the F2AS and F5 have 1.5" wide black straps. The F recently received a brown neveready case, complete with original leather strap, so it wears that now.

I have a Tamrac QR strap that was purchased in 1985, never had a malfunction with it, still as solid today as then. The suede leather covering on the paded strap is still comfortable and non-slip. The QR snaps are convenient when going to the tripod, shooting at a downward angle the strap would get in the way. Same with the Tamrac bag I picked up at the same time, good quality and durable. The only difference from then til now, fading.

I use three different straps and can't decide which one I like the most.
Crumpler Industry Disgrace - the most comfortable neck strap I've ever come across. Not ideal for small camera/lens combos but put something heavy on it and it shines. I use it for my F3/MD-4 combo.
A Black Rapid ripoff that is actually much better than black rapid, "carry speed cs-1", which I got locally but you can get them on amazon, fleabay and I think some other places. Carries either FM2n or D90.
Something that came with F100 and looks like my aunt made it when she was bored, then passed it to my uncle who did the hardware part. It's comfortable, impossible to break and very, very ugly. I love it.

I have loads of neck straps Domke Gripper Straps Op- Tech, Canon, etc.. that I don't use any more I dislike having the camera round my neck especially with a long heavy zoom lens on especially when shooting street, I started using a wrist strap like this http://www.amazon.com/6701062-Wrist-Strap-Neoprene-Camera/dp/B00137NMMW and carrying the camera in my hand or leaving it in the camera bag until I need it, which I find a lot more comfortable and less conspicuous.
