I've tried self intervention but I am too lazy. It is a lot easier to just stuff things in closets so I don't have to look at them. Lol.

Ah, yes. Oh well. $24 is still a great value for even just a good body. Many are going for 2-3 times that for broken ones.

I just accidentally bought a third black N80.

$17, boxed, including a Cosina/Vivitar 28-80 AF lens. For the price of one roll of Kodak Color Plus, you can have this amazing getup!

Ok, the whole reason I bought it is because I am now convinced that the ballyhooed (and rightly so) Nikon 28-80G is actually this Cosina lens. Except the Cosina version gets a metal lens mount! I spent the $17 in the interest of science to compare.




The Cosina/Vivitar lens it comes with:

Crazy deal! Here into germany, at best, a F80/N80 <40 EUR is considered a bargain, never had seen them cheaper, and fully functional, also into great condition for less than 39.xx EUR.

This is the lens that came attached to the N75. A PROMASTER 28-105 ZOOM. Even came with a PROMASTER UV filter and original Cap!
At least in terms of construction, design and looks it seems like a nice lens. The zoom and focus are smoother than the Nikkor kit lens. Have not had a chance to try it yet. Internet sources claim it may be a Tamaron.

This black N75 with the PROMASTER lens and Nikon strap was listed at $40 and I offered $35. I think a black N75 is as rare as a silver N80. I have seen pictures! Maybe someone here will nab one of those silver N80 to be a little different!

Functionally the camera seems 100%. Cosmetically it was sticky but easily cleaned. There are some light scuffs on the pop-up flash from being carried around in a camera bag. But otherwise has that 'unused' appearance.

Looks pretty nice, and this is the picture as it came out of the box. Before I cleaned it. As I was wishing, it's non-functional state was from the dead batteries that were in it on arrival.
I think all the black N75 that came to USA had the Quarttz date back, as all 3 of mine have that. It starts at 1/1/98 and goes to 2049 but only records the date; no exposure data. It records the date on the image. I do use this on occasion if I want to document something. For example I got a car in 1999 and the pictures were taken with the date function on. I print the pictures with the date in the frame. There is a nostalgic quality to that.

Very interesting! I’m wondering why the Cosina lens looks to be near identical. But I will find out when it shows up if indeed it is the same or just a cosmetic copy.

p.s. My original N80 was silver, and I sold it because it was silver. It did not look like metal, just cheap painted plastic. The black plastic version just looks so much better and higher quality, even though it is exactly the same.

I know this lens since it's being introduced. It's 100% a Tamron 28-105/F4-5.6 AF, but better looking. And guess what my Zoom is onto the 2nd F80 Setup though....Hint: it came out into 1998, the same year, Contax released the Aria, and also the Vario-Sonnar 28-70/3.5-4.5..that means, Japanese ceramic-giant Kyocera, which bought Yashica into 1983, released it. This Tamron was a cheap lens into 1998 - it costed new between 79 to 149 DM only, but it's a good Zoom for it's age, and sharp. I bought my copy into 1999 for 89 german DM. The Tamron was being avialable into Canon, Minolta, Nikon & Pentax bajonet mount.

There are a few settings where I prefer the all silver camera. When "Photography Prohibited" is announced. Of course everyone has a cellphone and is taking pictures and movies. In that case I want the most Un-professional looking camera and I think the all silver N55 fits the bill.
Also, if I just want to blend in as a 'tourist' I like the plastic silver cameras.

Sometimes it does not work. I still vividly recall in 2014 getting surrounded by security when I turned my silver N75 toward the runway at the airport waiting to be picked up after a trip to Disney. We all had Disney t-shirts, mouse ears and stuffed animals. I took some pictures of the family with the N75 and turned to take some pictures of the airport and planes. It was a scary experience, my heart was pounding.

I also only like the black version, blends into much more easily. I have a silver F55, and silver F80, which i'd sell.

Well the $17 N80 showed up today - broken camera back. The ad failed to disclose it, showed pics which implied the camera back was ok, and the description was the camera worked fine.

But because ebay - return already processed and I have the prepaid by seller return postage label. C'est la vie and also why ebay is a great place to buy stuff from. Sell? Not so sure...

My $20 N80 showed up today, put batteries in, showed ERR in the display. Looked it over and it was on multi shot, switched to single and manual, let the shutter fire a couple times (it acted as if it was in multiple shot mode for two release button presses). ERR message went away so I put film in it. about halfway through the roll and so far no problems. It's a tiny bit sticky, but will clean up easy. Roll of the dice I guess.

Got the error message myself, mirror was sticking but now that I exercised it it works flawlessly at all speeds, problem is i dont have any film, nor a autofocus lens yet

Sorry to hear about the broken door latch, Huss. Very poor conduct by the seller. Glad it’s being rectified.

I can buy a black 28-80mm lens for not much, but remembered I had a Quantaray 28-200mm lens and put that on the N80 to see how it felt. Not bad. Not too big or heavy. Focuses quickly, too. As we all know, Quantaray = Quality. No? Ok, it was cheap.)

My other N80 is coming tomorrow or the day after. The seller said he’d gotten a huge load of cameras from an estate sale and didn’t have the time or desire to test the camera. Fingers crossed that it’s ok.

Frankly it's just as well, seeing I already have two! Which work perfectly.

Always make a reset before using a used N80/F80. There are 2 green marked buttons to push, see the manual. And always a good idea, to check the CSM (Custom Feature Settings) and set them to your personal preferences...

You should get the matching bajonet lens hood for it - it was being sold together, never without hood...ppl are being lazy, and loosing that stuff within 25 years...

Prices have definitely gone up. I paid the princely sum of $5.00 for my N80 and $40.00 for the Nikkor 28-80 lens. It also was able to utilize my full frame lenses for my d*g*t*l cameras.

Sadly, loaned it to a former friend had haven't seen it since.

I might replace it with an F100 though, still considering. My wife says that I have enough "Camera Crap" though. But, I'd like to have all formats covered, since I have enlargers set up for all 135, roll film and 4x5. One for each format.
