Lolz -- I paid less including shipping for my N80.

I said it before, I did it on a lark. Just because it was cheap and I wanted to play in this thread.

But I'm shooting the F100 now and I like the N80 better. It's not a "better" camera, by most measures, but it just does all the things I want it to do in an inexpensive, lightweight package. I am seriously thinking of keeping the F6 for my do everything and the F80 for my "all you need, nothing you don't" autofocus camera, and letting the F100 go. It was a backup for my F6. but the N80 does enough to cover that base.

Basically, the f100 has started to feel redundant, regardless of how good a camera it is.

I haven't developed the rolls yet. but one B&W and one color I used the flash a lot, half because I wanted to test the flash and half because a major even happened that I hadn't planned for and I had it with me.

I had a 4004s in the 90s that I made a bunch of money with because of the pop up fill flash. I could almost always get a great shot WITH the scenery, even mid day when the subject was in shadows. That's how I paid for film as a broke-ass student pilot.

Attached fill flashes are one of the best parts of consumer cameras.

I advise not selling any of the electronic/plastic wonders. They usually can't be repaired (economically) if they break
and all will at some point. They don't take up much room.

At present I have 3 N75'S, a N4004, a N5005, and a N70. Already had to throw away one N70 that stopped working.

I'm smarter than that. I have proper flash guns for when I'm in serious mode, and the F6 and my digitals make using them super easy.

But a touch of fill on a sunset shot with the overbright scenery behind, or in the old days when the sun always backlit the people I was strapping into a glider for a ride, or even a dog eating whipped cream indoors when I have 100 speed film loaded... Not worth carrying a big flash all the time, but damned nice to have the popup on the camera.

Yeah, Bob, that's my thought. Though I have a habit of "lending" them to people, so my n65 and 8008 are in the hands of young friends who are interested in photography. Same with my work record and Zoom 90WR, though the girl who borrowed the work record almost immediately offered to buy it. I just don't see selling any of them for the price they pull. They should run rolls of film until they have problems and can't be economically repaired.

They're not going to last forever. But they take fantastic photos now, while they're in good shape. I'm now pretty set on getting another N80 for the box, and using it as a backup for my backup.

$20 for an N80? I wouldn't worry about it breaking when two rolls of colour film cost more.

I have two of the AA battery packs for my N75/N55 cameras (they came with them) and wanted the AA battery option for my N80 too. The N80 requires a different battery pack; the MB-16.
As had been joked about on these forums, getting the MB-16 is cheaper when it is attached to a camera. So I got the battery pack for $15 attached to an N80 with broken back latch. I actually wanted one with the broken latch to make use of a latch repair kit I already own. Of course the camera may still be a dud, we will see.

Of note, the battery door needs to be removed completely to attach the MB-16. So, when browsing the internet one may find MB-16 battery packs with a poor N80's battery door in its little keeper slot. And, likewise, N80s with no battery door. So beware.

$15 MB-16 battery pack and free camera. After cleaning. All functions appear to be in order. Battery pack is a little worn on the outside, but no evidence of battery leak on the inside.

So, this is not one of those that was purchased and just sat in a closet, this one was used, but taken care of. For example no evidence of corrosion on any of the screws. It is worn but not scratched, so perhaps carried around in a camera bag.

Of course it has the broken door latch which I will repair.

First 'test' roll using the new to me (again) 28-80G. This lens is stoopid good, let alone for $30! I'm starting to question my gear decisions when an N80 w this lens is just so handy.

I almost bought another N80 to get the 50 that was on it. Right now I just have a 35-135 and a 70-210.

Metal latch repair completed. To use the F100 metal latch on the N80, I remove about 1 millimeter of metal in the area indicated; to make the metal part flush with the plastic. Otherwise it won't close all the way. I believe there is an update to the F100 metal latch repair kit specific to the N80 coming soon, so this modification won't be needed.

I don't know why Nikon didn't put a shutter release on the battery pack. It would have made a hellova addition.

Another disadvantage of the battery pack on the N80 is that it makes the camera feel as heavy as the F100.
