Years ago I started a list of my lenses, mostly so I could keep track of how much money I was spending on glass. I have kept the list, adding and subracting as I buy or sell. However like you there are few lenses on the list which I have no idea where I put them. Where is the 360mm Symmar convertible? A box somewhere or on loan to a friend? It is not exactly an easy lens to lose.

This is morphing into a fun thread.

Here's my story: you'd think it difficult to misplace a 12x20 film holder, but only after looking for months did I find it hiding in a box, under some packing material.

Two Gandolfi Traditional lens boards missing here. One suddenly surfaced after I was back from the holiday, when I'd taken the Speed Graphic because I couldn't find the Gandolfi lens boards. But where is the other one?

Versar 17x20 - 22 1/2" F6 in studio shutter......... Dagor- 16 1/2" F 7.7........... Dallmeyer 18x16 Rapid Rectilinear F8- about 25".......... Artar red dot- 30" ........... Kodak Ektanon- 21 1/4"....... Dallmeyer 3A............not to many to keep track of and my favorite is always the one I'm using at the time

Since we moved a few weeks ago some of the darkroom is in storage while we are getting organized, but everything is a bit dispersed at the moment. We needed some fresh sheets yesterday, so I had to unpack the 8x10" Sinar P, which was padded in a box with all the linens.

I've managed to black out the bathroom windows so I could load film. There are no electrical outlets in the bathroom, so I'm trying to find my battery operated Paterson process timer that lets me set three times and has a beeper so it can be operated in the dark for processing film. It has a magnet on the back, so it may be stuck to the enlarger where I usually put it, but the enlarger is in storage.

Worse comes to worst, I suppose I could use the timer on my Digisix meter for the developer, go a few cycles through the rinse (tray processing), cycle through the fixer and time it roughly when I've got the lights on.

In our new place there is a hallway off the bathroom, which gets astonishingly dark at night, even though it is open to the rest of the apartment. As long as I stick to printing at night, I think I can set up the dry side permanently in the hallway and cut out half the setup time I had with the old dark/bathroom, and it should be a much more comfortable space to work in.

Not only is this memory thing affecting my recall of where I've put items, I have to admit it also affects memory in other ways. For example, I've totally blanked on where you live, your street address, and when you work and might be away from all those lenses...

Joe, Most are older glass. But I like the look they give. I think the only two that are coated are the Artar and Ektanon and I probably use them less than any of the others. Even the Dagor is of 1903 vintage before the term Dagor was being used. So there is no coating on that either. I guess it is like anything else just a matter of taste. As far as my address goes , I'll send it to you but bring dynamite to blow the safe door and a couple of rounds to shoot the the Rotts with. Oh and I almost forgot. You probably won't have to worry to much about the wife she's not that great of a shot but then again how good do you have to be with double- ought buck.....lol..just joking.

Useless factlet of the day: The f:7.7 Goerz Doppel-Anastigmat serie III is NOT a Dagor. The Dagor was the f:6.8 Serie III, which was a drastic redesign of the original f:7.7 serie III...

Both are 6 elements in 2 cells, arranged as "+-+" or ()() in each cell.

I thought all Dagors over 14" are 7.7. I'm no lense expert or collector. They're tools to me. At least the few 16 1/2" and 19" that I have seen were 7.7 and the 14" Blue Dot Trigor that I sold (bang head on wall) was F11

Ole, According to the literature at Camera Eccentric's website. Goerz 1940 catalog list the 14", 16 1/2" and the 19" at 7.7......Not that it really matters. I just love the coverage this 16 1/2" has. And as with most of my old lenses I love the character.

You're right RobertP, the longer Series III's remained f:7.7 after the redesign. So even when the name was changed to Dagor these were still f:7.7. I think I've seen a 360mm f:6.8 Dagor though, and even a 420 might just fit in a Compound #5 shutter. There might also be differences between Goerz US and Goerz Germany - especially after the latter was bought by Zeiss.

Ole, My 16 1/2" is an American Optical Double- Anastigmat Series III 7a F7.7. I use to have the chart for all the serial numbers but I can't find it anywhere. My serial numbers put this lens around 1903 if I remember correctly. Its in an Ilex 5 shutter.

I found the serial number list. It is from Eddie Bolsetzian, an ex Goerz tech. Mine is serial number 120xxx which puts it at 1902-1903. Just goggle his name and the list will come up.

Found it! I tossed it in a box with my slide projector, kind of at random. Found my white cotton gloves there, too. I think I can start processing film again.
