I just received what is arguably the greatest 35mm camera ever made

Test shot using the Olympus Trip 35 I found recently at the local thrift shop

The title is "Estuary Windfall - $2.10" because of the pun intended - I paid $2.00 plus tax for the camera.

Genius really and I wonder y no-one else has thought of this.

All Pen cameras are half frame.
All Trip 35 cameras are full frame.
But both use nearly identical shutters, so they function nearly identically.

You caught me there! I forgot about the SLRs. Also, I just now remembered the Pen-D series which contain better shutters (and lenses) than the two-blade things in the Trip and cheaper pens.
FWIW, I found the sharpness in the cheaper Pens to be mediocre, despite their having 4-element lenses. The Pen-D was clearly sharper. And the Trip is well known for its sharp lens.

I'll find out soon enough how good the lens is on the Trip 35. Developing the film...
It is a very fun camera to use - the size/heft is excellent - not too big, not too small to make things fiddly. VF is excellent, and a nice touch that you can see the distance and aperture settings in the VF.

It comes from the same root as abated, and refers to held back breath. Think of anxiously holding one's breath while waiting.
And it is not "baited breath", because that would be used to catch fish .

Saturday I get my kolor film back. My B&W has been waiting for me to feel better.. came down w a crazy summer head cold (tested for covid - negative)

Au contraire!
With manual control, you can throw a distracting background out of focus, adding magic. You can expose for shadows, whereas auto-exposure will be fooled by the bright areas.
Manual control of the Trip 35 is the key to magic.
Auto-exposure just takes the magic away.

(For the humor-impaired: The above is light-hearted, because I know that most people value the convenience afforded by auto-exposure in the Trip 35)

Unfortunately., many photographers appear to have lost their sense of humor.

True but while it is a decent camera I would not waste my time arguing about it. Your Leicas are much better.

About to scan the film… I shot a roll through a Fuji Work Record at the same time and got 36 exp per roll out of that. Because it is an auto load camera. Got 39 well spaced images out of the Trip using the same type of c200 film. So that’s a bonus.

quick tangential rant… this is what really bugs me about many auto load cameras. They waste so much film at the beginning of the strip. I could see the Fuji could have taken 3 more shots, my fancy pants Nikon f6 is the same.
