Well, I finally made the transition and today I took out the Dorff 8x10 for a shoot. It was hard work, but I felt that it will get more easy with time. I am not sure yet if I got a successful 1st shot, if not I still got out there and became more familiar with my gear. Had it not been for the supportive environment here I don't think I would have even considered 8x10 as an option. I can't believe I will be making 8x10 contact prints soon! Thanks to all those who have been helping me get a grip on LF.

So, how many exposures did you make? Bet you didn't do the equivelant of a couple of rolls of 645

Oh ya, congradulations!

Large format sure is addicting! It won't be long now till you are insisting on getting a 20x24!

For those of who kicked you out of the chatroom last night (usa time) - ya and we're waiting to see the results!! :D
Congrats Sean... you of all people really deserve the enjoyment of LF photogy.

Congratulations Sean! I hope you find, as I did, the 'Dorff to be the easiest camera to work with that I have ever had. Just don't try hanging it around your neck!

Yeah well, if the monster enlarger is any indication I think it wont be long..

Congrats Sean....fun aint it?

Congrats, Sean.

I think the first time setting up an 8x10 and looking at that big ground glass under the dark cloth, has to be right up there with the first time of seeing a print come up in the developer tray. Just awesome.

I'm processing the film later today, fingers crossed I get something

How well I remember the frustration of first time 8X10. Time and use will reverse that. The Deardorff is the premier camera for eventually getting so comfortable in your grasp that you could set it up and get a rough focus with blindfolds on. When those first big negs come up in the darkroom.....that's a rush! And the first excellent contacts.....another! Lots of gratification in all of this. I'm working on restoration of a F&S 7X17 as we speak today! I'll break it in tomorrow. Everythings almost ready I'm just allowing all that gorgeous wood to "drink in" some oil.

Congratulations Sean...and welcome to the dark side!

(Should we start taking bets on when Sean will move to ULF? )
