Dan: I do tend to say, "Okay, I'll sell one, since I just bought one." Sometimes it works, sometimes not. If I can make some decent photos with the thing, the acquistion will go more smoothly..

If I can get one of my kifds interested in photography, I'll be one easy street...

Once you start shooting with 4X5, you'll be hooked. There are a lot of great places here in NJ that lend themselves to large format shooting, but I'm sure you figured that out already!

The fact is, you really blew it. You should have said "What this old thing, I've had it for years". Remember this when she finds out about your 8x10 Dorff.

Won't work. Women know when we do something like this. They have a data base in their heads that has logged each of our transgressions. As soon as we open our mouths the search engine is set off and as we speak combinations of words, gestures, eye movements, and twitches are logged and eliminated until the alarm goes off.

I want my prints to be as archival as my wife's brain. Nothing has faded, and the details amazingly clear.

It always helps to start any conversation with:

"The guys at work asked me out after work for a few beers at the new strip club in town, but I told them I'd rather be at home with You. Oh, and I also got a really neat old camera I've been wanting for the longest time and it was really really cheap."

Good luck!

I think my husband just goes out and gets another vehicle after I bring another camera into the house. He's a mechanic and fixes them, but still, cameras take up less space than cars (and a small school bus)!

That's what I tell my wife: "It could have bben worse - I could have collected cars"!

Then I tell her about one of my colleagues who at one time had 14 motorbikes, but had to borrow his girlfriend's car if he needed to drive anywhere.
