I found Lomography film in a store.

I was in an American Eagle store the other day and I found a three pack of Lomography 400, 36 exp film. I don't know how many other stores would have it, but I thought it was an interesting find. They also had a Fisheye II camera and a camera that has 8 lenses built in. It was a point and shoot I believe.

Urban Outfitters (in the U.S.) is known to carry Lomography cameras and film as well, but the prices are rather high of course. Not long ago I found some Lomography-branded C-41 film in a local clearance/surplus store for $1 a pack, but they only had a couple of packs. It was made in Italy, so I'm guessing it's Ferrania (?). Terrible stuff with saturated colors and bluish shadows, kinda like a grainy, expired Ektar; but then again people using Lomo cameras and Lomo film aren't doing it for image quality, right?

It retails for $14.50 I think. Which is close to what B&H sells it for without shipping.

Lomography just rebrands cheap film (I believe their B&W is GP3) and sells it at a premium. Kodak should hire their sales manager, he seems to have the right amount of indecency for the job.

oh that's nothing, here in Warsaw you can get it and the cameras in shops ranging from clothing stores to pro film labs and "artist" co-ops. I've even seen it in a souvenir shop.

Most of the film (single pack) sells for about $8/9 and the cameras $70/100 baring in mind that the minimum wage here is $2

I think finding film and film cameras in a popular store can only be considered a good thing. Maybe some don't like the fashionista/overpriced nature of Lomo gear, but pound for pound, it probably represents better value than Leica gear. I say that as a Leica shooter.

but isn't that because Leicas are equally overpriced?

and doesn't selling it in popular stores - rather than say camera or more normal stores - end up creating a niche market rather than a genuine interest in cameras and analogue photography and bearing in mind some of these have already moved on to and equivalent app for their phone things... which is kinda counter to what the film industry needs

People who buy clothing in an AE or Urban Outfitters are probably going to think of the fisheye lomo as a nifty fashion accessory. I can imagine that market working quite well. Actually, as I mentioned in that other thread, the instant print concept is quite consistent with the social networking fad. Things like adherable instant prints and photograohic tattoos and whatnot are going to do well with the young people I know.

And the lomo fisheye is just plain cool! I almost bought one just to look at it. Very clever design concept.

I agree, but the problem is we (as in my generation - the skinny jeaned if you will) have very short interest spans and I say that, as I am, bedecked in skinny jeans.

I know plenty that have already ditched the lomos because the holgamatic does it, but digitally - so more sharable and besides as the say: your iphone is probably the only camera you'll ever need

I think anything that keeps film in the public consciousness is great. American Eagle is just trying to compete with Urban Outfitters.

From a philosophical point of view, I wouldn't waste a cent of my money or a nanosecond of my time on a Lomography product. Or one of those godawful lensbaby monstrosities. Or anything from starschmucks. Pretentious rubbish, all of it.

Lomography is more -negatively meant- fashion than photography. Do not waste any money on anything Lomography. It is not good quality and it is not cheap to justify the low quality.

It is a shame to see a great-quality-film manufacturer having financial difficulties when Lomography is making money selling its crap film.

I sold mine after about one month of not using it and then just built my own field camera for the movements... luckily I also sold it for more than I bought it

so is the use of the word lamestream, but otherwise I agree

and stavrosk is right, the quality is poor and if you're after something like that - just buy any old thing with a plastic lens and expired film, which will work out to anything from cheap as chips to free if you play your cards right
