The replies indicate that my father was 'correct' when he maintained that it was NOT 'the fall' that caused the damage... It is always the sudden stop at the bottom of the said 'fall' 8-(

I did that with a polaroid one step camera. The strap hooked up on a picnic table and took it right out of my hand. When it struck the side of the table it took one last photo and then it smelled like burnt electrical. Had to put it in the bin. I had just found a new old stock flash to go on it and it was mounted. It saw literally one pack of film's use in it's life before it died.Thanks for the input, everyone. It was actually a strap that caused me to drop the camera. I did not realize it was on the camera, and it caught on something and snatched the camera out of my hand.
