My field of vision is important to me - I like to keep it simple - free of clutter, superflous, distractions, etc. Photrio just got MORE like something for those who spend all their time glued to their phones & computers rather than OUTSIDE composing photos. The world of today is already too desensitizing,

I agree that the layout is just too full of everything. It's very 90s design style where everything needed to be visible at the same time.

I already posted this before but look at the other "competitor" in discussion forum software how clean they have got the look: https://meta.discourse.org/t/introducing-discourse-chat-beta/210734

Sean here, on my mobile. This is not a problem, simple as installing a minimalist skin for the site. Give me a few days to enable the option.

Nice! Looking forward to that one.

I posted side by side comparions of old and new sites, they're near identical. Also, check your preferences, you can disable some visuals, but we'll get a minimalist skin up soon.

As discussed in the other thread, it was "broken" so to speak. Unsupported software and running old server applications, difficulties in properly managing the backend to name just a few issues. I would have loved to save myself nearly 10k and countless hours of work and just keep the old site, but you have to keep current, or you could suffer the consequences and I care about the data too much to risk it. Also, the longer you put it off the worse it can be to update. Many being forced to update when their old system falls over. We were also suffering via search and rankings, the site score at one measure was C- and now hits a B+ which improves our rankings, bringing more members to the website -our user registrations have doubled since the update. The update has allowed us to use AMP for mobile and much much more new technology. It's a bit too much to go into and it's all about future proofing the community for the long term.

As for the layout, it's near identical to the previous site, I posted so side by side comparisons as mentioned here:

I can look to getting a minimalist syle installed for those who want mostly text and no frills.

Check your user settings, there are a few things you can adjust such as disabling the sidebar, disabling the red flags in the header, soon there will be options to disable colouring of the classifieds tags, and disabling of user avatars.

The site is malleable and can be made however we like, and it's a work in progress, so all feedback is welcome and I'll do what I can to make it enjoyable for as many as possible.

The more specific the feedback the better.

Thanks,
Sean

That's what I thought. I don't see anything significant that wasn't here before.

Websites have to be updated. It's a fact. This is far from 90's design - I don't see any multicoloured titles or patterned backgrounds here at all.

New site look and function has been near perfect for me from day 1. The odd bugs here and there are quickly being stamped out. Bravo.

I like the changes a lot, and the web pages look ok to me. I'm using Brave for a browser (great browser) and it pushes ads off the page, so maybe that's why the layout looks uncluttered.

Thanks for your effort Sean, a labor of love, apparently.

How do you disable the sidebar?

What red flags? I don't see any.

Yeah, I am slowly getting the site pared down to my preferences, I had it just right before the switch now I have to start over. Annoying and less than fun.

Actually I like to have everything accessible on one page. I don't like to have to click 5 different times to get to some place. Those simplistic site don't have many functionalities that this one has and requires. So far the site has evolved just the right amount. Still some tinkering can help. But overall, I am happy.

I don't know what you guys are talking about. I guess some people just like to complain? Looks almost exactly the same to me.

The only suggestion I would make to streamline it a bit would be to make the "report/multiquote/reply" items in a smaller font. They stick out a bit much as a repetitive item.

Why do I need some box to the right telling me how many threads? How many messages? What is it supposed to help with?
On the lower left hand side, I'm told my posts, my threads. Hey Photrio, it ALREADY says that at the top !!!!!

The point is that all those things are NOT a change. They were also in the previous version on the site!

The customization is good. I just changed it to show only the thirty most recent gallery photos. Well, the forum stats box is there, too, but that doesn't matter.

Rather than add a minimalist skin option to the site, I'm going to add at least 5 more options to hide certain elements that some find distracting. Then, If anyone wants a minimalist text style experience, they can simply disable all the options in their preferences and the site will be extremely plain. Give me next week to iron this out. Thanks
