Unfortunately it has a serious front focus problem, so it´s future is on a shell :-(

Still I like these.

I would send it to Jergen Kreckel who can evaluate the focusing. He is known as cert06 on E'Bay. To me, it looks like the lens has been mounted or oriented in a way that imparts some sort of movement off of parallel, similar to a view camera movement AKA 'swing', 'tilt' or both!! Or the focal plane is not matched to the scale, and the lens needs to be stopped down to offset that, or zone focus it. Often these older folding cameras have a somewhat poorer performance when shot wide open and need to be at f8 at least and f16 at most before image quality is best. This is not a rangefinder either so you need to either obtain a RF or have some way of making sure your distance is accurate for focusing.

The last one seems to show a clearly diagonal line of sharpness, which is a bit surprising from a "down-foldin" camera. If it had been a "sidedoor" camera I would have thought the standards weren't quite loched so the lens got a little swing it shouldn't have. But thers looks to be a little "reverse tilt" as well, so that might still be what the problem is.

The rest are not really out of line for a fornt-focussing fast triplet - I can't see what lens it is, so I just assume it's a triplet since it's f:3.5 and "Anastigmat".

some folks have had good luck with him ... others have had horrible luck ...
( my folder was returned in worse condition than it was sent ... and i was charged for the repair  )

these guys can probably check your focus for you ... and if they can't they won't charge you anything for the estimate ..

good luck!

I can't tell for sure if that is similar to a Kodak Anaston mechanism or not. What you might find is two little screws on the numbered focus ring that engage with the lens element barrel. Loosening the screws and rotating the numbered ring, with respect to the lens, will allow one to set the focus scale. I use a microscope slide with translucent tape as a ground glass focusing screen to do the adjustment.

Looking at the gap between the focusing ring and the front of the shutter brings up the possibility that the lens is one revolution too far out on the threads. So loosening the index pin and rotating the lens in one turn may be the solution.

jd callow: What the h*** is NOLA

I will not spent any money getting this one fixed, it´s not mine, and quite frankly I don´thin it´s worth
it.

I will try ic-racer advice, maybe I will need to post a pic or 2, I keep you posted

Btw, the lens is a Prontor-S Novar-Anastigmat 7,5 cm f3,5

I had a camera that took photos like that. I took it in to the shop and the repairman discovered that one element was in slightly crooked. The example photos you posted look to me to be the same problem.

Prontor is the shutter. That should be a nice camera. Looks like a comma aberration, colors perhaps not coming into the correct plane of focus. What aperture were they shot at? These lens are extremely sharp at f11/f16. Perhaps it was dropped and the front element is not aligned with the rear?

Anyhow it's a nice carry about camera if you get the focus sorted out. My Nettars take pretty nice photos within their limits.
