I vaguely remember seeing a book where someone photographically replicated (or came as close as they could) some of the better known Hudson River School landscape paintings; does this ring a bell with anyone?

I vaguely remember that as well. I did a google search, but did not find such a book. Now that I've moved away, I miss it more than ever.

William Clift did a beautiful series there, but not exactly what you describe. John Pfahl as well, his color work very much in the Hudson School tradition.
