hp5plus curly

My last several batches were curly, therefore difficult to put in my film scanner. I complained and the lab told me that the new hp5plus is thinner than it used to be. Not convinced, I took a roll to another b&w lab with the same results and the same excuse. I quite like hp5plus but now I'm thinking of switching to something else. I heard Fuji makes some good b&w film. Does Fuji curl? Should I switch?

my hp4 doesn't curl but I don't like it as much as hp5plus.

Lay the film, in the sleeve or sheet, down on a flat surface for a day or two and the problem is solved.

The Fuji Neopan 400 which is a direct competitor to the HP5+ does not curl as easily as HP5+.

Generally, if you just let HP5+ dry at room temperature, it doesn't curl. If you force dry it, it does curl.

I assume that as you are getting a lab to process your film, they are probably drying it in a heated cabinet for speed.

I've developed a few rolls and just left it to hang at room temperature, no curling issues for me, so I'm putting my money on Mick.
After a while in a negative folder, just about everything ends up dead flat anyway, even the most unruly of exotic Chinese films, so I'm sure it wouldn't take long under a few books. If it continues to be an issue, you could get your lab to scan them. They should have the facilities and basically it becomes their problem, not yours.

Here is a photo of fairly recent (3-4 month) HP5+ negatives (35mm). The one in the foreground is placed with the emulsion side down, the one behind with the emulsion side up. Dead Link Removed

You are also right when saying that HP5+ drying by roomtemp. does'nt curl. But in this case when you get back from the lab curled films is that the solution.

Boy you want curl?! Use Classic 400. That stuff is so curly I can barely load it in my reels for development.

Curly? Bergger 200 looks like burned nylon when drying. Perhaps very close to the classic 200/400 ?
Never had an issue with HP5 or any Ilford negatives nor any of the Kodaks.

I hang films up to dry with two Patterson weighted film clips at the bottom. Nothing curls.

Curly HP5

I've experienced this aswell recently, with fp4 too. Neopan 400 is an excellent film and stays very flat.

Never had an issue with HP5 or FP4 or Tri-X. Agfa APX 100/400 and classicpan 400 is notoriuous for curling.
