I have been reading thru this forum and others to know about the Nikon and Epson discussions.
But, as I am in Fairbanks,Alaska and a new digital user, I am looking at an HP Photosmart C8180 printer, scanner, copier because it's local at the office supply store and the price is right. A number of the scanner features appear to be easy to understand.
So the question is..... does anyone use any of these HP products?

I a newbie at doing this and will be on a learning curve. Just looked out the front door at the thermometer and it's at -18F, we are having about 4 1/2 hrs daylight(if it isn't snowing). Could be the middle of March before any outdoor photo trips will be planned. Plenty of time to learn something new.

I feel your pain, my daughter has lived in Alaska for 35 years.

You didn't state what your intent is for the multi-use HP. If you want to scan photo's it is very questionable, especially if you want to reproduce. I have 2 multi-purpose units but have to use a dedicated scanner for photo's.
I couldn't survive without my multi-purpose but I don't even attempt to print photo's with it, simply too low resolution.
For photo's or film you really need a dedicated photo scanner.....

My opinion, for whatever it might be worth, is that these multi-purpose units are a compromise on most levels, particularly scanning or photo printing. You would be much happier with the results if you had a dedicated scanner and a dedicated printer. Of course, if you had those, faxing is nothing more than a software issue as you would have the basic hardware for that as well.
