I want to try diafine for the first time. I have to make a quart of solution A and B. But a quart of what? Howmany milliliters is aquart?

Thanks

Jaap jan

1 fl oz. = 30 ml,

32oz = 1 qt

960ml = 32oz = 1qt

This is correct (with just a little bit of roundoff), provided that you are speaking about a US quart.

An imperial quart is 40 fl oz.

For diafine, I expect that the instructions are referring to US quarts.

Matt

P.S. The wikibooks link is okay, except I'm not sure that the Imperial quart is truly "unused"

For most practical purposes in photography, a liter and a U.S. quart are close enough to be considered the same. You don't have to follow dilution instructions to the letter. Just be consistent.

Now, people will likely jump in with the numbers to prove how dead wrong I am, and of course, they are right...but keep in mind that I said "most practical purposes in photography". A slightly weaker dilution of all the chemicals I know will not significantly alter their effectiveness.

Even though I am in the U.S., I use liters for all of my measurements. It is so much more easy and sensible.

The instructions for Diafine call for US quarts. Using 950 ml. for a US quart is fine, and makes measuring so much easier. Don't sweat it.
