I did a workshop with Howard in the late 1990s in Denver, wonderful man and a wonderful teacher. I'd like a copy of that article too please. I lost my entire collection of D&CCT magazines in the divorce. It would be great if they could be digitised.

Thank you markbau for your comment.
I just read his article Basic of Fine printing in Special issue #11 of Photo Techniques magazine and I must admit, I really liked his writing style and observations.
He has 3 articles in that issues. Other is about unsharp masking and third is about printing one of his landscapes. He mentions that other article there, so I wanted to read it too.
If there is the link to digitized version of the magazine, it will be amazing. It's so sad that so much knowledge and experience got lost every second.
I'm not sure how Howard's books are written, from compilation of his magazine articles or??
Reading David Vestal's 2 books was pleasure too.

I have sporadic issues from '79. Those were all backorders. I missed your issue by one month as I started subscribing in April/May/ '97. That magazine, until it went digital, was packed with excellent articles.

Happy New year Matt!
You know, I'm serious case of ESL, you need to be more careful with messages like this.
I have no idea what do you mean? Lost in translation......

He means the apostrophe should be here: Bond's. If you just wrote Howard, then Howard's is okay... however, we wouldn't know which howard you were referring to.

I would rather split infinitives.

Yep!
Howard's Bond might refer to Howard's copy of a James Bond story.
I'm going to give in to my pedantry!
Please accept my apology!

I have several problems with the article before I get to the end.
  1. I have a diffuser enlarger so I do not have a usable figure 1. So I have problems at the start.
  2. Since I use split grade printing and print first for the best magenta print and then print for the best magenta + yellow print, does the article matter?
