Hi. I foolishly mounted the film back without having a dark slide: my darkslide is in another film back but I cannot remove it, presumable because it is not on the camera. Catch-22. my question is, is there a way of removing the darkslide from the unattached back, or alternatively. remove the back from the camera body without installing a dark slide?

Try swapping the backs on the camera in a fully dark closet to get the dark slide out?

I’m not worried about losing any photos, it is simply the camera is designed to not allow the film back to be removed without the dark slide being inserted. I was hoping that there was a trick release method, as replacement dark slides are crazy expensive

The back has an interlock to prevent you from accidentally removing the dark slide with film in it.

Press and hold the pin shown below to release the interlock, and the dark slide should come out.

It worked! Thank you so much. A few hours sleep and off I will go photographing. I don’t know what it is but I love the challenge o using it. Table top Matchbox and Hot Wheels cars with a Rome backdrop first challenge.

Excellent! The GX680 is big and awkward to lug around, but it's very flexible and captures incredibly nice images.
