I want to process scanned negatives and slides in Lightroom Classic using all the LR tools and adjustments that I do for digital photos. So I'm evaluating Vuescan, which to my surprise I'm liking more and more compared with Silverfast. However, I can't seem to figure out the settings so that I get a 16-bit RGB TIFF output without any adjustments for color balance, highlights and shadows, white balance, etc. I want to make all those adjustments in Lightroom (or Photoshop).

I have to say that when I started this comparison of Silverfast and Vuescan, I thought I was going to go with Silverfast. Now I'm not so sure.

On the output tab, select raw file. This will output a file with a gamma of 1 and will look dark, but is whatever the sensor saw, without any modifications.

Can you adjust levels (Black and white points) as well for the scan? Does it help to do that?

The reason I ask is that some have said that setting levels give more data of the actual range of the exposure in the shot because the range is not spread out 0-255 but rather the photos actual range for that exposure. I've argued that the levels are set to change the scan results. So it doesn't;t matter if you wait to adjust black and white points in post-editing. I was wondering what people's opinions are on this?
