How to get and use JIS Screwdrivers as opposed to Phillips

I found a little video that shows how much difference there is between using a Phillips and a JIS screwdriver, on a Japanese carburetor (around the 2:20 mark):

Thanks for the video and information, PPete -- very useful. I intend to start doing a bit of camera tinkering now that I'm retired, so a set of JIS screwdrivers will come in very handy.

Nice. Please, drop a note here when you get them.

Cheers,
Flavio
Just got them in the mail and they are fine. At $4 a driver they are not bad but not Snap On quality. They fit the screws on My Nikon FA (just the camera that was close. ) These are able to stay in the screws without holding them in even at a 90 degree angle. Actually, just tried it upside down and the JIS 3mm driver will stay in the lens mount screws. I have to pull them out so that's a pretty good fit in my book. No damage to screws that I can see.

If $20 is what you want to pay, I would say, why not. If you want Wiha SK or Snap On grade, you'll have to hunt further.

The only thing that seems like a quality issue is the smallest is not perfectly straight, it wont affect the function, but it keeps it from being a trophy tool.

A bit late but Microtools has JCII drivers & tips

Here they only introduced them lately. They started with the Wiha ones only.

That set above likely is made in Asia.
It is a interesting kit, using key-holding bars to attach screwdrivers to.
It can't be that old as it already contains Torx drivers.

Thanks for the original posting Peter. I've had trouble in the past as well, not realising that there was a different screw head! I too have just bought a set of the screw drivers from Amazon.co.uk for just £14.12 INCLUSIVE of p/p, whilst other companies on the net charge up to about £50 for the same item with ridiculous postage added on!

P.S. Peter - I think you should have gotten shares in this company, as they might have a sudden run on the supply of this item

Ha ha ! Next time I come to Southend=on=Sea to visit Sister-in-Law i will look out for a bloke using a 'Plastic camera' when I am on my exercise walk !

I'm sufficiently persuaded by your video, and the subsequent discussion, to abandon dismantling my Bronica SQ back using the "jewellers' screwdriver" set I bought off a market stall for £1, and shell out for a TD-56 set.
I am the least "handy" person, but it is nice to have decent kit with which to break things
