Yep. Or a waste of a lot good real estate the other way around. But I'd imagine that anyone shooting 8x10 film would own an enlarger with bigger capacity than 35mm, or else contact print onto 8x10. I have seen 35mm color contact prints displayed with a little gooseneck magnifying glass over each one; that was the photo hobby of a particular jeweler.

I didn't mind getting paid to do 4x5 shots of certain commercial subjects, but scratched my head when those ended up reduced to half the size in the brochure. Lots of 4x5 and sometimes even 8x10 shots ended up tiny scale in travel magazines too. That's just the way it was done back then.
