Combine that with regular use and appropriate minor cleaning, plus maintenance every few years, and you should be ahead of the game.

If fungus is a threat, then set lenses in direct sunlight shining into the lens with the iris fully open to help kill of fungus.

Be very careful with this. Do not let the sun shine directly into the lens, otherwise you will almost certainly scorch something.

Some of the newer insect traps use a UV light to attract the bugs, Since it's the UV that kills the fungus I'd assume(!) the light on the trap may kill the fungus.

RE: separation, older lenses using balsam glues are prone to it just because they're older, with newer lenses I's suspect impact.
