While the scans could undoubtedly be improved, have you considered that some of the issues you have identified might have resulted from the color films you used? When you post an image, please identify what film it is from.

My color 35mm list (ricoh xr2s with the four prime lenses I mentioned previously) as of right now:
My last Velvia 100
My last color mission 200
My last fuji it-n
2008 expired portra 400 vc (lot tested)
Orwo nc400
Film Washi X
(was going to bring a 2006 expired fuji npc 160, but just psyched myself out of it because I don't know if it was frozen stored or not).

here's the list of the 35mm color films I actually used:
the 2008 expired Portra 400 vc- expected a bit of degradation
2011 expired (but probably frozen kept) reala 100- some unexpected edge fogging, but it turned out
ORWO nc500- some random light leaks and defects, but that's probably because the roll I Brought was one of the first ones produced
Adox color mission- colors are a bit different as it is
film washi x (c41), VERY different colors
but all the scans were quality and decent resolution.

the Velvia was probably expired, but Frozen Kept and came in a lot- the first one scanned at 6000 by 4000 dpi two years ago turned out beautiful with no issues. my credit card sized scans on the recent one however...

Koraks, great photo of the 3 bicycles. Chapeau!

That's really kind of you, thanks!

@TheGreatGasMaskMan I think all of the scans show digital artefacts that originate in the scanning and post processing, and are not inherent to the film. There are problems with unevenness/banding as well as extremely emphasized "grain", which to a large extent is not actual film grain, but an interpolation artefact of the scanner interacting with the grain (dye clouds). Of course the greatly enhanced contrast also emphasizes the problems.

If you cannot scan your own film at home, finding a good lab will help. I have been using Precision Camera and Photo in Austin Texas for both processing and scanning. Their price is reasonable, and the high resolution scans are really nice.

the surprises keep coming- let's see if you can guess what happened to this roll...

I lost track of what gear you ultimately took for your trip and how that worked out logistically....

still interested? I'll tell you
Nikon ft3: 24mm Nikor, 35-135 Tamron zoom (though I only used it as a 35), 50mm kit lens, 135mm Nikor, and my Nikon Holga lens. I legitimately used them all and swapped them out regularly, though it was the Holga that got used the least.
Mamiya c220: 55mm and my 105mm, plus a Gossen Luna f pro.
I also brought my Nikon D3300 and Yashica 44, but didn't use them a whole lot

needless to say, all the film lenses fit in my bag perfectly, and they all got used.

all was good until I had three rolls scanned way too small...

Would you change the number of lenses you brought next time? Seems the triumvirate of 24, 50 and 135 would have served you just fine.
Also how did you like traveling with the Mamiya? Did you use all the focal lengths?

I'd say that was the right amount of 35mm lenses, though next trip, wherever it may be I may not bring the Holga lens.
Traveling with the Mamiya wasn't too bad- it's heavy but not too heavy, I can circumvent the weight just by throwing it over my shoulder. and yes, I used both of my c220 lenses.

This Fall I am going to Europe and for a change taking a 35mm camera instead of the Hasselblad. Normally when I use 35mm I carry a Nikon N75 for color with a Tamron 28mm to 300mm AF zoom lens and Nikon F100 for color with a Nikon 28mm to 200mm AFzoom lens and they share a Nikon 20mm to 35mm AF zoom lens. This time I am using a different approach of taking one of the Nikon AF cameras, may be the N80, the Tamron 28mm to 300mm AF zoom lens, a Nikon 28mm manual PC lens, a Nikon 24mmAF lens, and a Nikon 20mmAF lens definitely. Possibly the Nikon 15mm AIS 110 degree wide lens and or the Nikon 16mm AIS Fisheye lens. I will not be taking the Tamron 150mm to 600mm AF zoom lens and its 2X extender.

What places are you visiting?
Saying “going to Europe” makes even less sense than “going to the states”.

Amsterdam, Den Haag, Paris, Interlakken Switzerland, Grindelwald, Jungfraujoch, Lauterbrunnen, Geneve, Arles, Paris. This time we are staying overnight in the mountains so that we can walk and hike around Grindelwald and Lauterbrunnen and have a relaxed dinner instead of the one day tour of the Jungfrau.

I am starting to plan a trip to Antarctica and for that I will take the Tamron 150mm to 600mm AF zoom lens and its 2X extender since the Hasselblad 500mm lens and 2XE extender cannot reach as far.

Sounds good. I begin to see why you want super zooms. No fun changing lenses while hiking.
Amsterdam is a beautiful city. Very photogenic and not quite as touristy as other capitals.

What is there to see on Antarctica besides penguins and research stations?

Steve, I'm not sure how late in the fall you're going to Europe, but if you're in the Lauterbrunnen Valley, this little restaurant hidden at the very end of the valley, under the face of the Lauterbrunnen Briethorn IMG_6280.JPG is a gem far from the crowds

Also wildlife takes one look at the lenses and moves the appropriate distance away to render their images too small to be interesting.

The ice formations including into ice tunnels, caves and scenes with water. No polar bears there.

I will look for that restaurant. The first time I went was in 1966 and then in 1977, but I did the trip in a day both times. This time while I still can I want to walk and hike around as well as sit in a restaurant unhurried by a schedule.

Here’s some real world stuff. My wife and I drove a round trip from Portland, Oregon to Doylestown, Pennsylvania. 6542 miles in twenty five days. It was my sisters birthday and I felt it was important to be there. Drove from Portland to Spokane and started our trip from there. Spokane to Great Falls, Montana then up to The High Line, Route 2. Two lanes across Montana, North Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan. Some of it was good, most of it was frost heaves. Across the Mackinac Strait down to Ohio with its beat up turnpike and on to I80 across Pennsylvania. We stopped a few times. Spent two nights in Great Falls, saw some of the falls but never made the two mile hike to see the others. Two nights in Bemidji, Minnesota. Home of Paul Bunyan and Babe his Blue Ox. Met some interesting people but the focus was on family. Had a great time and it was the first time in a decade we were all together. Bought a new set of tires in Doylestown and it was an odd mix of someone who knew the area from fifty years ago and also being a visitor. It was fun but I would never move back. Turnpike and interstate all the way home. Lots of wind in both directions and the last leg was through the Columbia Gorge with a headwind of thirty five miles an hour.
Brought the M4-2, 35 1.4 Nokton SC V2 and a 50 2.5 Color Skopar. A lot of great scenery but only used two or three rolls.
If we had stopped and spent time at all of the interesting places we saw, we could have easily spent three or four months on the road. A decade ago, we would have done it (and did) this time, we just wanted to be home.
I have the memories and a few photos and wouldn’t have missed it for anything.

A little positive update- I had the Velvia rescanned on at a much higher resolution and now it looks exactly like it should. the p30 and ORWO are also going back in. The crappy Holga lens shot is still a bit fuzzy, but it's just the crappy Holga lens

I echo this...airlines outside the USA are much more strict about max weight and/or size of carryon baggage being small enough to fit --without maneuvering the bag -- into dimensional limit size checkers. Some allow 10kg, while some have 7kg limit.

Keep it small, unless shooting professionally and affording to be able to lose gear due to baggage theft. Check EVERY airline that you willl be flying.
