How many film hangers?

I'm slowly preparing for dipping and dunking some 4x5 film and I'm looking around for some film hangers. My question is how many hangers can be processed at one time in a Kodak hard rubber tank?

The one-gallon tanks? About 8.

Maybe 10 or even 12 if your hands are big enough in a 5-quart tank.

You can fit more hangers in a tank, but if it's too full, they're awkward to manage in the dark (as in, you put 9 hangers in the tank, and one hanger is outside the tank, so you drop it in the sink and have to find it in the dark and hope you didn't scratch the film in the process).

It's good to have extra hangers, though, so you can run multiple batches or have some drying or washing while you're loading the next set.

Thanks, David. I have the Kodak 4x5 tanks. Having just now measured, they are 6x6x3.75 inches and hold 2 quarts/2 litres.

Those are even smaller. I'd guess 6-8 hangers would be practical in a tank that size.

IME, 6 is about the practical limit.

With the Kodak tanks I've done 8, but it's a tight fit. I generally stick with 6.

I can do 12 but get better results with 6.
