How Many Cameras do you Own?

Do you have a small pocketable camera to use when you don't want to be carrying one of the Canon SLR's?

(I think I asked that question before, but I'm old and entitled to ask it again.

Yes I have a Minox 35 GT, but I haven't used it for about seven years.

How many? A whole lot less than some of my fellow APUGers, evidently. Let's see: Two Hasselblad 500 C/Ms, two Leica M6s, a Leica M4, a Leica M4P, and some Nikons (F6, F5, two F3s, and six F2s). All see constant use. The only camera I would like to add to my arsenal is a Hasselblad X-Pan.

The Minox 35GT was a camera i loved. Use that Minox otherwise it could fail. They need loving and care. Mine (35GT as well) died.
Got a Rollei 35 -the coveted made in germany model. It was a definitely inferior machine from an usability point of view. I sold it.

Now my 'replacement' is an Olympus Pen S3.5 which, for me, is the best Olympus camera ever made (i don't like the OM system). I love that camera, and now i have three of them. Excellent pocket camera with full manual control.

I have a Rollei 35 and love it. The Minox 35, which I've never actually handled, always seemed as if it would be awkward to use due to the door struts interfering with being able to adjust the aperture ring.

It is easy to adjust, AND you can also see the focusing distance from the viewfinder itself (if you move your eye a bit)

The design of the Minox 35 yields an aperture that can bring you into trouble, but that is seemingly the price of miniaturisation.
I also got a Kiev 35 clone, a otherwise very well made camera (but watch out for the barrel end-position). At my sample the lubricant of the aperture ring vanished, now I got plastic sticking to plastic. In that narrowed position the ring is barely to turn any longer.

I just got my first film camera, the Nikon, just over 6 months ago, and I'm already up to 11 lol. I guess only 2 per month isn't too bad, is it?

All are functional and are or will be used. The VPK I cut 120 film down with a cigar cutter and re-roll onto 127 spools, the 3A I have adapters to fit 120 film for a 6x14 pano, as soon as I get done with making the film mask. I haven't had a chance to use the Graflex or the Argus but will be soon.

Currently standing at two film cameras, two digital still cameras, and two digital video devices. - I think the next step as far as collecting goes needs to be two movie cameras just to balance things out?

Mamiya C330f has been my main fun project camera for the last year, and I have a Busch Pressman Model D on its way to me now. I rather enjoy the contrast in workflow between my "modern" canon 7D bodies and their amazingly quick and reliable auto focus systems, and then picking up the manual focus TLR.

Feeding that 4x5 isn't going to be the most comfortable thing on the budgets, so I don't expect to get massive amounts of usage out of it, but I'm expecting to enjoy it a lot, and rather doubt it will be my last large format camera making its way to the collection. I suspect that another model or two of press camera will find its way to me over the next few years, a wooden field camera or two, and maybe even a larger format rig at some point. Still on the fence about a studio monorail.

A second C330f will also be added at some point, and maybe a C220 for reverse engineering. Rather like the idea of tinkering with some near scratch built cameras at some point as well.
And VERY tempted by the Pentax 645 line - Sharing lenses between a film and digital body like that seems nice and economical, and how can you resist the logic/excuse to buy the gear when you shoot both mediums anyway?

I recently took a trip to a different continent, and was again faced with the dilemma of what camera(s) to bring.
Consistent with other trips to the same country, I chose the Hasselblad 500 Series with 80mm lens. I wanted to bring two bodies, just in case, but opted to bring a much lighter 35mm P&S as backup, since I had gone way overweight for the carry-on limits for domestic flights within the country.
It always becomes clear to me when I travel, that I own too many damned cameras, and that choosing between them is an exercise in frustration. I really ought to simply cut the collection down to Hasselblad and a couple of 35mm ones, and get rid of the rest, in the interest of making life simple (particularly in the darkroom).

I can feel your pain. For the last trip, i took 4 hours pondering which cameras and lenses to carry !

I have also tried to write down the names of the cameras and lenses on tiny bit of papers that i place on a glass jar, so to pick them at random, but it did not solve the problem.

Hey Brother Same here, except that my Leicas are M3 and M4-P. My Nikon F90x sees little use those days, its glass is used with an alternative technology which shall not be named here Besides, I found an XPan last week. Go for it, it's terrific! There is a quite learning curve, though. Will take time to master this format. FWIW, there used to be a Fuji TX-2 in the classifieds, maybe it is still there? I would have bought it if import duties to Europe were not so high.

EDIT: just checked, that TX-2 is no longer available.

My only caution is that the more you have, the less you will enjoy each one - you just won't have the time to devote to each camera and bond with it.

I have a lot of cameras, but I've acquired them over 50 years - staying with my first camera and lens exclusively for 15 years.

I rotate through using my cameras, usually using each one for at least a month.

Good point. I think for me, I found the abundance of analog camera types (folders and TLRs and WLFs, oh my!) over the same old boring D7200 I was using to be both overwhelming and refreshing. I think I'm still sampling a little of everything to see what I prefer. I'll keep your advice in mind and try to spend time with a given camera once I figure out what I think I like.

Here's a question?

I'm pondering selling an OM1n, the Nikon L35AF and Fujifilm. Their replacement would be a Ricoh GR1. Thoughts on this?

I've owned GR1s before. I get nervous spending hundreds on electronic cameras that seem to live on borrowed time. Perhaps there is a reasonably priced M mount lens that could do the job?

The GR-1 is wonderful ...while it's working.

Pocketable titanium body, great viewfinder info, aperture selection, focus modes... I love mine, but all too often it locks focus at half press only to lose focus upon pressing further. Others have had this and related problems.

Stay with the Mju.
