Simple question really. I want to carry about a dozen 4x5 color transparencies with me on the road and be able to share them with friends by simply holding them up to a window or, clear skies (ie no light box). Need some kind of archival, frosted on one side, protective sleeves. There's lot's of 'em out there -- any suggestions?

One of the more attractive means of transparency presentation I've seen are black transparency mounts that are similar to mattes for use in presentation boxes.

Try this...

LightImpressions has some single transparency black light weight 'frames' with a frosted back that will allow a 4x5 to slip inside. The frame is then 'latched' at the corner. I would seriously consider one of the small, flat light boxes that run off a converter to display your work. The quality of the light and for the viewer is much better than holding the image up to the light. The light box and a archival box to store the transparencies will fit in a very compact over the shoulder bag.

I once bought a pack of Panodia transparency sleeves - 5x7" slides in 8x10" black mat; all fitting in a transparent sleewe with frosted back. That, plus a battery-powered HAMA lightbox, is perfect for the purpose.

I'ld go with one of those small battery light boxes, and plain old sleeves since these are just for friends, and informal situations. Holding them up to a light or a window will not show off their true beauty. Hold one up to a window and then plop it on a good light table. I found the difference to be quite amazing. I transport my trannies to and from my father's house-where the scanner is-in a little file box if I am carrying the whole bunch, or just an old film box.
