Vuescan can save both the processed image and the RAW in 64Bit RGBI, so you get the best of both worlds.

Like shooting both JPG and NEF.
The Vuescan processed rgb is nothing more than a post processed image that could be better done in Photoshop, Lightroom, or another image editing program using the "flat" scanned "raw" file. Why learn another post processing program (Vuescan) or edit using both Vuescan and PS?

Not sure I understand your question...Vuescan is easy and has strong and conversationally detailed online support.

I agree with tjk. Vuescan is only as complicated as you make it. once you understand what you need to scan, it becomes very simple. when i need a high end scan on my nikon, I scan as a raw scan and do post in PS. if you dont want to learn, get a copy of "the vuescan bible". the author has a step by step process on how to do it. nothing to learn, just paint by numbers
