This has always been my pronunciation, though it's really not based on anything. I've often wondered what the correct way is....

I once heard Rod - in - all... kinda what made me wonder in the first place.

Which sounds better, Azol, Certinal, Kodinol or Rodinal ?

Personally there's an air of surety about Ilford's Certinal. It rings of a confident British alternative to Rodinal, and it was available at all good Ilford stockists from March 1909 onwards

as it's a German product, I would assume the same as Thomas (although I sensed a slight tinge of Swedish in his pronunciation)

Now that we have a few responses I'll tell you what I think:

Rho-duh-nol (that is with a "ol" ending)

In the similar but different way, I don't pronounce "National" with a -nal sound but more like "Nationul". But then I was born and raised in East Tennessee.

PS: I'm not alone. Google "rodinol" and you will find a lot of others who even think it is spelled "..nol".

never used it but always pronounced it 'rod-in-all'.

When I was taking German in school (or it was taking me), I would say gggghhhwww woh deeen ahl. I stopped that when others in the lab thought I was choking on something. Now I just say Rod in ahl.

Used to be you could tell by the fact that there is only 1 d, followed by a vowel. If the ROD was to be pronounced like the rod for fishing, there would be 2 d's in a row(dinal). The fact that it came from Germany is the best clue.

In fact it is pronounced like the rod. Somewhat like "Rod-ee-nawl", with a short burst of "ee".
