How do you organize holders in field?

I buy china markers and write on the dark slides. Film type and date loaded on the outside of the unexposed side. It wipes off with a Mr. Clean sponge. No, I’ve never had any flake off onto the film. Of course, I also number the holders and record exposure information in a notebook.

I noticed a Lot of people use zip locks. I fixed a lot of issues with dust when I switched to anti static bags used for circuit boards. They are the silver coloured bags, technically called tribo-electric bags.

The issue with Ziploc bags is that under dry conditions, they can generate static when the holder is removed from the bag, attracting dust. I just keep my holders in zipped bags like insulated cooler bags generally.

One nice about bumping up in format -- one tends to expose less film, thus less to keep track of!

I use pink anti-static bags -- some ziploc, some padded. I need to resupply...and see what is available for 11x14 holders. I have some great custom-made pouches given to me that each hold an 11x14. Not perfectly dust proof, but I normally have a anti-static brush with me in the field to clean darkslides before putting them in the camera if needed.

Holders are numbered,w/ sides A and B...except the 11x14 where the sides are given distinct numbers. Each image made is recorded, with a goal of developing the film straight out of the holders if possible. Between my 3 formats (5x7, 8x10 and 11x14), I have enough holders to last a week or so on the road without reloading. And usually have my Rolleicord along, too.

When I have had to reload (trips abroad and limited number of holders -- like to Chile), I take note the order the exposed film goes into the box. If the light varied greatly, I'll use separate boxes and divide the film up by SBR (which will determine development concentration/time/temp).

Probably a little over-kill as we don't really need to shield from static...just not generate it. Uline has a nice selection of options...but the volume one has to buy is excessive. They have a nice 15"x18" ziplock anti-static that would work for my 11x14 holders, but I do not need 500 (at ~50 cents each). For 8x10, their 12"x15" holds two holders nicely...but I do not need a case of 500 ($160).

That's the one. They prevent static being generated by the vibration and movement of the objects inside.
