How damaged is your lens coating???

I've used clear multi -coated protection filters on all my lenses since I've owned them even my Tamron SP 17mm f3.5 lens which uses a huge 82mm filters ( they actually don't screw into the lens, it has no thread, but into the lens hood that is threaded ) all the coatings on my lenses are perfect because I only clean the filters never the lenses, and if they get marked or scratched I throw them away and replace them

had a rare vintage TLR lens accidentally damaged by the technician who had the camera for 9 weeks & totally rebuilt it from the ground up, new texture gave the lens more "character". but currently the damaged front element is with focalpoint (for polish & re-coat) with a 50/50 chance of improvement, will see what comes back & work with it.

Truly remarkable. But tell us, would you toss your lens away if it happened to grow something under the filter because the lens itself was never cleaned? Here's a thought to consider: If you did clean your lens instead of just the filters, you might notice an appreciable difference in image quality since glass surfaces accumulate microscopic residues from things like atmospheric pollution that you can't see on the lens itself. Even if I don't see it on the lens, I see the remains on the KimTech wipes I use to clean with the Residual Oil Remover (ROR)

I have at the moment three little bottles of R.O.R I get from my local pro dealer, I usually clean my flat screen TV's and computer monitor and my glasses with it, I have cleaned a few lenses and filters with it in the past, but I'll take your advice Mark, thanks

I wish ROR came in the 1 liter size bottle ! I wasn't quite familiar with how ROR is used when I first tried it. So during my first attempt, I spritzed a little on a double piece of Kimwipe lab tissue and initially, it left a very slight film/residue that I recall now, people complained about. The trick is to wipe the glass off with a couple of dry lens tissues after using ROR. THAT made a huge difference. I've used it the same as you Benji. Monitors, flat screens, reading glasses.

I don't know about you, but I never use lens cleaning cloths. My vibe is that they hide debris and particulate matter that may cause scratches to glass surfaces. So I prefer the tissue. But that's just my opinion.

Guys you only need fighter fluid, 99% isoproponal, or preferably Naphtha (white gas). Use a PEC pad, small amount, and done.

Do you know what lighter fluid can do the the Canada balsam that cements lens elements together ?, I'd rather stick to a product that's none toxic and made for lens cleaning thanks.

It's far better to keep the lens clean, than to keep cleaning the lens. Why I use filters and caps.

Yes - a cloth which is used and reused contains whatever was wiped off the lens, and will sooner or later get grit in it and cause those famous marks. Same with lens pens.
I use tissue, which is kept in it's original envelope, inside a small ziploc bag, used once and thrown away.

I used caps as often as I know which pocket I put them in.... generally the work is more important that putting a cap on the lens that I am not using.

One stop gain over what? Have they ever looked at a one-stop ND filter? That would be one filthy lens. I love advertising - I'm sort of surprised they didn't promise it would get you l@id.

I was given some with assurance of never having had any problem, and I have to say it works well. Too bad that they chose to make such an unethical claim- their product stands on its own merit.

i used ROR years ago good-stuff!
it was really strange, i got back to my studio, put it on my lens
and swedish model appeared out of no where put a LP on the phonograph, started to dance. she made great coffee.

after i cleaned a few lenses, i ended up giving the stuff to a friend who was recently divorced to cheer him up.

Yes, but the cooking damages it. If you want to line gloves, or insulate one's codpiece, you need to start with raw pelts.
